A new action MMO on Steam lets you take on the role of a warrior monk who sets out in search of enlightenment. But this journey will not be easy and will start anew every 2 weeks.
Which game is being referred to? We are talking about Havenhold, an action MMO and the debut work of the Chinese indie studio Wolfpack Games. The developers themselves describe Havenhold as a “social sandbox” with a focus on combat, inspired by Eastern mythology.
On April 17th, the developers will launch a closed playtest, for which you can already sign up on Steam. Just click the “Request Access” button on the game’s shop page.
Here, the developers provide a brief overview of the game:
What is the game about? You begin your journey as a simple warrior monk of the Taichu order. The order believes that the path to enlightenment leads over Mount Kunlun. Your goal, therefore, is the summit of the mountain.
However, Kunlun favors the strong, and you are not the only one seeking its favor – you will have to fight for it. Additionally, you don’t have forever to prove yourself worthy.
- The game world of Havenhold is divided into cycles: Each cycle lasts 14 days, or 2 weeks.
- At the end of each cycle, the world resets to the beginning, and only the worthy will be rewarded.
In combat, you will use classic weapons like sabers or combat staves. You also have the gift to bind so-called “Primordial Spirits” and use their powers of fire, ice, and water against your enemies. The combat system of Havenhold is designed to be easy to learn but hard to master.
The developers also announce a player-driven economy for Havenhold. In fact, it is smarter to join a team: The closer you get to the mountain, the more dangerous the enemies become. In the last days of the cycle, there are also supposed to be large PvP battles. To gain the favor of Kunlun, you may also tear down the fortress of another group.
Havenhold is just one of many MMOs and MMORPGs currently in development. It often takes many years for such a game to be ready for the market. In our list on MeinMMO, we provide an overview of all 58 MMORPGs currently in development for PC.
