Jak’Sho, the Protean, is still new to League of Legends, but is already one of the most popular items. Players have now discovered a secret, albeit deadly, interaction with the item – and are puzzled about how to trigger it.
What kind of item is this? Jak’Sho, the Protean, was introduced in patch 12.22 on November 16, 2022. It is a defensive item that increases health points and defense values and brings a unique effect.
The longer you are in combat, the stronger the item becomes. Once the enhancement reaches its maximum stacks, the armor explodes, dealing damage to surrounding enemies and healing you. The item has already had to be nerfed, which has made some champions in the new Season 13 stronger now.
From the story perspective, Jak’Sho is actually a living armor that connects with its “buyer.” This also reflects at the end of a round if you are lucky – or unlucky.
What does Jak’Sho do? As soon as you win a round, it can happen that the message appears in the chat: “Jak’Sho deems you worthy and absorbs your power.” Afterwards, your character dies, as a short clip shows:
The effect does not really impact the game, as you only die after the actual game. Tasks that require you to finish a game without deaths are not affected by this.
Nevertheless, the interaction has captured the curiosity of players. They are now puzzling over how to become “worthy” – and what that could mean.
Players puzzle over how to prove themselves worthy
On reddit, players are discussing possible triggers for the special interaction. The possibilities include:
- no deaths, which has already been ruled out
- a particularly high rank with the champ, which has also been disproved
- dealing the most damage in the game or mitigating a lot of damage through Jak’Sho
- high killstreaks, i.e., kills without dying
The secret has been keeping players occupied for some time. Players found the Easter egg as early as late 2022, though without having noticed the death of their own character.
Additionally, some lore fans are now wondering if the Easter egg might have a deeper meaning. Because the story behind the item allows for several possible connections to be made.
With Season 13, a new cinematic for LoL was released, which disappointed fans quite a bit:
One possibility could be that a new event is on the horizon that somehow relates to the void from which Jak’Sho originates. However, that seems rather unrealistic. The other possibility is a connection with the champion Kai’Sa.
Kai’Sa has herself entered into a symbiosis with a living armor from the void, similar to Jak’Sho, only she is not being consumed by it. Not yet, at least.
However, you will probably have to wait some time for a clarification of the question, if there is any, as Riot currently seems to have some issues that need to be clarified:
