It has been 11 years since P.T was released. Although the game will never be launched as a demo, fans are finding new hope. The studio behind it is coming back with a new game that looks quite similar.
Which game is being talked about? The name of this game is OD, and it comes from developer legend Hideo Kojima. Judging by the first teaser, it is a horror game that finally translates the oppressive atmosphere of P.T into a full game.
The video is more of a trailer than a teaser in length but reveals very little about the game. Moreover, trailers for games from Hideo Kojima tend to be up to 10 minutes long, so this labeling is quite fitting for his standards.
Here you can see the teaser for OD – the new horror game from Hideo Kojima:
What does the teaser show? In it, we see a woman in a room. It is sparsely furnished, and there are candles placed on a kind of small chest of drawers or nightstand. The atmosphere is bleak: You can hear the raindrops hitting the windows and thunder rumbling. The outside world is shrouded in fog.
The woman is trying to light some candles. Odd things happen: eerie sounds, including baby cries, can be heard. Additionally, there is a knocking on a red door behind her – until it opens and a massive creature steps towards her.
From P.T to OD – Fans are full of hope
Fans immediately think of P.T: This name appears frequently in the comments on YouTube. It was actually just a playable demo on the PS4 for Silent Hills, which was planned as a new game in the popular “Silent Hill” series.
P.T was developed by Hideo Kojima, who became famous primarily for his “Metal Gear” games. However, before the finished game could be released, a falling out occurred between him and publisher Konami. Silent Hills was subsequently canceled, and P.T was removed from the PlayStation Store.
Fans are still mourning the game to this day. P.T was a truly atmospheric horror experience, albeit limited to the duration of a short demo. Many players are therefore hoping that OD delivers the form of horror that P.T promised around 11 years ago.
- “Close enough, welcome back P.T,” writes mryurei8656 in a comment on YouTube.
- Grett_dma is excited too: “Finally, we are getting a Kojima horror game – what a time to be alive!”
- “Dropping this trailer just before the release of Silent Hill f is truly a power move,” comments 1gnore_me. After all, a game for Silent Hill was one of the last projects Kojima led at Konami.
When will the game be released? OD does not have a release date yet. It is also unclear on which platforms the game will run. Since Xbox Game Studios is involved in the development this time, it is uncertain whether and when a PS5 version will be released.
Hideo Kojima is known for eccentric games, his attention to detail, and cinematic cutscenes. However, one particular skill that helps him in game development he should rather not apply in real life. You can find out what that is in this article: A legendary developer has trained skills to create better games – if he were to use them, he would probably end up in prison.
