On Steam, a new indie game has been announced where players can inherit a house in a village and build it with the animal residents. But what seems to be a cute life simulator has a dark side.
What kind of game is this? The game Critterville Goes Bankrupt has been announced. It is being developed by the studio Penniless Games. However, there is no release date for the cute life simulator yet.
In Critterville Goes Bankrupt, you inherit a house in a village full of various animal residents. The village seems to be quite run down, and you are supposed to rebuild it together with the resident raccoons, ducks, and foxes. You must, of course, keep an eye on the finances, but also start the occasional romance.
You’ll get a first impression of the game with the official trailer:
Animal Crossing with useful neighbors
What makes the game so interesting? At the end of the trailer, there is a scene that is completely out of sync with the otherwise harmonious vibe of the rest of the impression: three of the animal residents team up and beat up a poor fox in the dark.
The scene suggests that there will be a mechanic revolving around the relationships of the animals – which can apparently take a very negative turn in some cases.
How is the community reacting? The reactions, both to a post on X and to the trailer on YouTube, are interested and amused:
- Darylchurc writes on YouTube: “That took a dark turn. lol”
- sainttan sees similarities to a Nintendo game on YouTube: “Animal Crossing, but you can hire your neighbors to be useful.”
- The user dxreaper120 has the same impression on X: “I didn’t even know I needed a mix of Animal Crossing, Minecraft, and Peaky Blinders.”
