With Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy, THQ Nordic, together with the developer Frozenbyte, is releasing the latest installment of a cooperative platformer series. On Steam, the game is already receiving many positive reviews.
What is it about? Trine 5 seems to tell a very classic fantasy hero story.
The three heroes of the game are a wizard, a thief, and a knight, who are each at a low point in their lives. A ruined reputation, magical powers at stake, and love in danger.
Despite these personal troubles, the heroes must come together again to fight back against the evil clockwork army, to fight for justice, and to bring peace to the land.
The developers promise that this will be the most action-packed journey of the three heroes so far.
Trine 5 could definitely be worth a try, even if you usually stay away from platformers, as even the predecessors were great.
Where can you play? On Steam, you can play Trine 5 since August 31, 2023. However, it is also available for the Switch, PS4/5, and Xbox.
What makes the game special? As seen in the trailer, the game consists of many puzzles in a 2.5D world that must be solved to advance in the story. Solve them solo or in co-op, with adaptive difficulty levels based on the current number of players. This is meant to give the game a certain replay value.
The solutions to the puzzles feel very classic and utilize the abilities of the different characters. For example, use magical items to build a bridge, employ the thief’s agility to progress with ropes, or utilize the knight’s strength to set things in motion.

You will also encounter various enemies. The developers promise a new combat system, which also has a small preview. Here too, the abilities of the characters play a clear role. For instance, the knight can parry attacks with his shield, and the thief can nimbly jump around the enemies.
