Today, on September 3, 2020, a new Free2Play shooter has spontaneously launched in the Epic Games Store. Diabotical emphasizes fast gameplay like old-school shooter Quake and features crazy graphics. The developers have also simply skipped a beta phase.
What is Diabotical? The new shooter focuses on fast-paced battles in arenas with various weapons, rapid gameplay, and different movement features like jump pads and bunny hops.
Such mechanics are especially known from the very old shooters like Quake and Unreal Tournament. Already Quake Champions makes use of these features and has been Free2Play since 2018.
In Diabotical, you play as a strange egg robot on the 30 colorful maps and try to defeat opponents. There are 10 different game modes, such as:
- “Instagib” – Every shot is instantly lethal
- classic frag
- “Time Trials” – Racing through the maps, similar to the “Surf Maps” from Counter-Strike
- an aim training
Thus, you will have the opportunity to customize your characters with cosmetics. The developers have presented their crazy game today with a trailer:
Where can I play Diabotical? The game is Free2Play for PC in the Epic Games Store starting today. There is currently no information regarding versions for consoles like Xbox One and PlayStation 4 or next-gen.
The reason you haven’t heard about it yet is that the developers spontaneously just lost interest in an open beta. After some tests, they decided that Diabotical was good enough to be released (via Twitter).
Free Fun Game with Future Vision
According to the official FAQ on Diabotical’s homepage, the focus of the game is particularly on fun. With this approach, Fall Guys had great success and quickly became a hit on Twitch. Party games that do not take themselves too seriously seem to be quite well received.
However, there are already plans for the future. In an interview with the French website Team aAa regarding the closed beta, a staff member from the studio explained that 250,000 $ had been set aside for potential tournaments around the world in the first year alone.
In addition, there is already a release plan for the next 2 years.
How well Diabotical performs remains to be seen. If it is well received, it may well join our best multiplayer shooters of 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
