Many RPG fans are still playing Skyrim today because hardly any game can replicate the fascination of the hit. A new fantasy RPG on Steam could hit the mark for fans.
What game is it about? In August 2025, THQ Nordic announced the fantasy RPG Fatekeeper. The game is being developed by a tiny team of 10 developers. As in a Dark Souls, you find yourself in a dark fantasy world that has been destroyed by a past catastrophe.
The game is intended to offer you not only a story but also an explorable world with various forests, caves, and secrets.
The gameplay in Fatekeeper, like in Skyrim, takes place from a first-person perspective. With various weapons and pieces of equipment, you will venture into battle, and there is also supposed to be magic. In a new gameplay reveal, THQ Nordic showed what that is supposed to look like.
Pretty and modern graphics and a hefty combat
What can be seen in the trailer? In the nearly 8-minute trailer, you can see how a character examines a ruin (previously, he talks to a talking rat). The world in the trailer looks quite beautiful, with plants and vines crawling over the walls, and nice lighting effects. Especially compared to the 14-year-old Skyrim, the game looks more modern.
A significant focus in this gameplay trailer is, of course, combat. Various opponents face the character. The sword strikes of the character have a certain heft, and enemies are thrown aside. Compared to Skyrim, it looks significantly more explicit and brutal. Additionally, you can see a parry function and a quick dash to evade attacks.
In a later section of the video, a powerful enemy with a heavy hammer is shown. The played character uses poison to soak his blade in it. With a levitation spell, he grabs a barrel in the trailer and throws it in the enemy’s face.
Looting and leveling up cannot be missed in an action RPG, and the menu also features a point for spells and the skill tree. You can watch the entire trailer on the YouTube channel of THQ Nordic.
How does the community react? The first voices under the THQ Nordic trailer seem to be pretty enthusiastic. The user @ShakeyOS already knows: I can already say that this game will take many hours of my life.
@RednekGamurz feels reminded of an old RPG classic: This looks really good. It reminds me a lot of Dark Messiah (especially the moment when he pushes the archer off the edge). I will definitely keep an eye on this.
Another commentator praises the atmosphere and the short voice acting that can already be heard in the trailer.
When is the game supposed to be released? So far, there is no specific release date. It is only known that Fatekeeper is initially set to release only for PC. However, you can already add the game to your wishlist on Steam.
