We The People is an upcoming extraction shooter on Steam, focusing on realistic weapon behavior and developed by military veterans.
What kind of game is this? We The People (PC) is an extraction shooter with hardcore elements, played from a first-person perspective, and is set to be released on Steam in 2023. The game is being developed by the small developer studio “Small Indie Company” – the name is the program.
As an extraction shooter, We The People focuses the gameplay on entering a map, collecting loot and gear, and leaving the map alive at an extraction point. However, if you die in an extraction shooter, you lose all your gear as well as the collected loot.

What distinguishes We The People? To make survival and the related successful extraction from the map as challenging as possible, We The People is planned to feature different enemy types. According to the studio founder, these range from other players to wild animals, zombies, and other AI enemy types.
In addition to loot and extraction mechanics, especially a realistic weapon feel and tactical approach are intended to be the foundation of the gameplay. The studio founder states in a dev blog on YouTube:
- “The gunplay must look, sound, and feel realistic and provide players with thrilling firefights.”
- “Movement must give players a real first-person experience so that they feel as if they are actually moving, jumping, crawling, climbing, getting shot, and yes, dying.”
- “Firearms must have a lot of customization options.”
Moreover, We The People aims to have a kind of safe zone where players can move freely, trade with NPCs, organize their inventory, and take on quests. They do not want to create a “main menu simulator” where players can only look at their backpack after a raid instead of actually interacting with NPCs.
In addition to the extraction mode, there will also be an arena mode that is supposed to offer the same risk. The arena mode is supposed to play faster, but it is still possible to lose your gear.
Does We The People compete with Tarkov? Realistic weapon behavior can be particularly interesting for fans of Escape from Tarkov (EFT). EFT is considered one of the co-founders of extraction shooters, but especially the hardcore mechanics leave many offshoots, such as the German The Cycle: Frontier, which announced its shutdown in June 2023, often missing.
Fans are waiting for an alternative to EFT that offers realistic gunplay, and We The People could fill this gap despite zombie enemies.

What kind of developer studio is this? The indie developer studio describes itself as a team consisting of military veterans. The founder of “Small Indie Company” is named Drew and was himself a member of the US military.
In a dev blog post on YouTube, it says that he had to leave the military after a short time due to a spinal injury. After that, the studio founder missed the camaraderie of the military and later became happy playing video games.
