Darkfall: New Dawn plays its cards openly and does not let you buy a pig in a poke.
Darkfall: New Dawn opens its PreOrder shop and allows all interested parties to take a look at the reboot of Darkfall Online before purchase. According to developer Ub3rgames, the servers will remain open for everyone to test until July 25. You can find the download link here.
Every ending is a new beginning
Long before the opening of Kickstarter and before sandbox MMORPGs celebrated their current revival with games like Shroud of the Avatar or Chronicles of Elyria, the Greek studio Aventurine tried to awaken the genre from its slumber with Darkfall Online and Darkfall: Unholy Wars. Unfortunately, that is now over, as the studio recently had to shut down the servers.
Fortunately for fans, there are currently two reboot projects for Darkfall that want to breathe new life into the vanilla version of the game. Promising at the moment is Darkfall: New Dawn, whose developer Ub3rgames released a first gameplay video online at the beginning of March.
So examine who binds forever…
The new PreOrder store, which is still in the testing phase and therefore not fully functional, offers the base game as well as different subscription packages.
But before you make a purchase in the shop, you should extensively test the game until July 25, before the servers are switched from “public-preview” to “buyers-only”.
“After July 25, Darkfall: New Dawn will enter its InDev phase, meaning that there will be temporary ‘Seasonal Servers’ with a tiered reward system. At the same time, the political meta-system of the game is intended to be initiated,” the developers explain. “The server name ‘InDev’ means that this is the relaunch of the vanilla version of Darkfall, which is still very much in development.”
If you don’t have time to test the game yourself, take a look at this series of gameplay videos from a Darkfall tester that the devs recently linked on their Youtube channel:
