While PC players are already experiencing the adventures of the new expansion “The Cloaked Ascendancy” for the MMORPG Neverwinter, players on PS4 and Xbox One still have to wait a bit. But the release date for the expansion is approaching.
The latest adventure module will be released for Xbox One and Playstation 4 on April 11.
The events will then take you back to the city of Neverwinter, where a new threat is brewing. Players are meant to feel as though they are returning to Neverwinter as heroes after the events of the last expansions. For example, Lord Neverember, the ruler of the city, will seek the advice of the legendary heroes instead of treating them like foot soldiers and making them do menial tasks.
Neverwinter is set to feel more like D&D again
Additionally, the feeling of a D&D game session is set to revive. The heroes will traditionally stop by a tavern to receive a quest. As lead designer Thomas Foss explains, the team has wanted to focus on the aspect of magic for a long time now, after players have fought against huge monsters for so long. He drew inspiration for the story of “The Cloaked Ascendancy” from images from D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast. They depicted powerful wizards in the city of Neverwinter, and Foss wanted to explore who these wizards are and what their plans entail.
With the new adventure module, the team also aims to move away from linear “tunnel” gameplay experiences and give players more freedom. The adventures are also set to be repeatable. You will determine how the adventures unfold and how you reclaim the new area “River District.” During your adventures, you will learn more about the mysterious wizards causing trouble in the city.
The next adventure takes place in a warmer area
Thomas Foss also explains that the console versions of Neverwinter are well-received by players and that in the future, expansions could be released simultaneously on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
