The Blood of Dawnwalker shows 30 minutes of new gameplay. The vampire RPG on Steam is developed by former developers of The Witcher 3 – and you can tell it by the game.
What kind of game is this? The Blood of Dawnwalker is a new open-world RPG developed by the studio Rebel Wolves, which consists partly of former developers from CD Projekt Red, including Konrad Tomaszkiewicz – Game Director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
In The Blood of Dawnwalker, you play as Coen. He is the Dawnwalker, which is what the game is named after: during the day a human, at night a powerful vampire. Coen wants to use his powers to save his family – but you only have 30 days in the game to do so.
In June 2025, the developers already showed 20 minutes of gameplay from The Blood of Dawnwalker. Now there are nearly 30 more minutes from the game to see. Once again, a quest is shown, which reveals the game’s greatest strength: the influence of the time of day on quests. Depending on whether it is currently day or night, different paths are open to you.

A quest, many possibilities
What does the gameplay show? The quest is the same that was shown during the last gameplay reveal. However, at some points, different decisions are made, which changes its course.
- In the first half of the video, Coen is out during the day again. Upon arriving at the cathedral, he talks this time with another person who proposes a trade.
- If Coen finds the missing janitor of the cathedral, he gets to read a book in the library. There might be something about a lost crypt that he is searching for.
Coen then sets out on a search and finds a monster in front of him. It likes to teleport away from the fight and strikes wildly at him, making it quite difficult to hit. After the battle, Coen resurrects one of the dead in the room and learns that the monster was the missing janitor.

Coen has access to magic only as a human, as explained in the video: If we had been there at night, we wouldn’t have been able to resurrect the dead. Thus, we wouldn’t have found out that the monster was the missing janitor.
Back at the quest giver, Coen reports his findings and is allowed to enter the library. The developers then show how the quests could have unfolded at night:
- Instead of diving into the vampires holding a ceremony in the cathedral at night like in the previous gameplay, he can also sneak past them.
- With his vampire abilities, Coen can get into the library this way, but only at night. There, he also finds the information he needs to locate the crypt he is searching for. However, on his way there, he has to fight past some guards.
Developers build on the strengths of The Witcher 3
You can tell the game has the legacy of The Witcher 3:
- Quests and decisions also play a significant role here, sometimes even more than in The Witcher 3. There, the time of day rarely made a difference; here, it opens up entirely new paths and closes others.
- Atmosphere and music evoke the same feeling of a dark fantasy world, and especially the soundtrack clearly reminds of The Witcher 3.
Is there already a release date? No, it is still only known that the release will be in 2026. There is no exact date yet.
At gamescom 2025, The Blood of Dawnwalker was still the “biggest” game presented to MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus. While AAA games were surprisingly absent from the event, the fair provided ample room for niche titles – a trend he personally approves of: If the gaming trend of the coming years follows the gamescom 2025, a great time awaits us.
