Trekkies can expect a new game where they take command of a legendary spaceship and its crew from the Star Trek universe. However, one thing should not change according to fans: the (lack of) promotion of a certain crew member.
Which game is it? It is Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown. This is a story-driven survival strategy game that makes you the captain of the U.S.S. Voyager. Alongside the Enterprise, Voyager is probably the most famous spaceship from Star Trek.
There is now a trailer showcasing the first gameplay. Among other things, it shows how crew management and the upgrading of Voyager work, as well as spaceship battles and decisions you will make.

What is the game about? It tells the story of the TV series Star Trek: Voyager. As captain, however, you are allowed to make your own decisions and thus deviate from the path of the series. On the official Steam page for the game, it says:
Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Captain Janeway had made a different decision? If a key crew member had taken a different path? Or how it would have ended if the crew of the U.S.S. Voyager had used Borg technology to increase their chances of survival?
In one aspect, fans of the series want to remain faithful
What do fans say about the trailer? They are already eager for the game, even though many miss the music from the series. Although they get the opportunity to rewrite the story of the U.S.S. Voyager and her crew, one thing should remain the same for many fans: Starfleet officer Harry Kim, played by Garrett Wang in the series, must not receive a promotion under any circumstances.
- For example, ellbee4325 commented on the trailer on YouTube: “There should better be an achievement for completing the game without promoting Kim – otherwise, there will be an uprising.”
On Reddit, fans are also sure that Kim must not receive a promotion.
- LordCaptain imagines a possible scenario: “‘Hello Support? I’m trying to promote Harry Kim and every time my game crashes.‘ – ‘Thank you for your call. Your account has been permanently banned.’”
Other fans, however, want to be lenient. Sp33ddialz writes on YouTube: “Change History [Note: This is one of the game’s taglines], understood! A Rear Admiral Kim comes right away!”
When is the game coming out? There is currently no release date for Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown. The game will be released for PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
