BlizzCon 2017 features the new expansion for Hearthstone. We have 5 theories for you about what it could be about.
It is now official: At BlizzCon 2017 not only the new expansion for World of Warcraft will be presented, but the next expansion for Hearthstone will also be revealed there. Based on last year, a release is expected just a few weeks later.
Even beforehand, the developers of Hearthstone had teased a bit about what lies in the future of the card game. All 3 expansions from 2017 were hinted at in a small preview image. The jungle leaves represented Journey to Un’Goro, while the frost rune symbolized Knights of the Frozen Throne.
The last image, which represents the third expansion of 2017, gives little away. One has to look very closely to notice that a pile of gold is shimmering through the image. There is plenty of gold in Azeroth – but at least there are various theories one could establish.
The colleagues from Hearthpwn have formulated 5 theories that we want to present to you.
1. Booty Bay – Plenty of Pirates
When thinking of great treasures, pirates quickly come to mind, plundering their way across the seas. Indeed, there are many pirates in WoW, particularly in the pirate stronghold Booty Bay. The conflicts between the various pirate factions (like the Bloodsail Buccaneers) provide plenty of room for cool stories and even cooler cards. As pirates are already represented in Hearthstone, this would be a great opportunity to do more with this card type…
2. Kezan Island – The Stronghold of the Goblins
Piles of gold? Surely the greedy goblins have their fingers in it! If we aren’t getting a South Seas expansion in WoW, at least we could get one in Hearthstone! The goblin metropolis Undermine certainly hides plenty of mountains of gold, obtained by the greedy green skins through dubious means. Goblins are known to do anything for money – and would produce anything as long as the price is right. Furthermore, players have long wished for more insight into the lives of goblins, and a conflict between rival trade princes and barons would be the perfect setting for a fun-yet-serious expansion, following the rather gloomy Frozen Throne.
3. The Deadmines and the Defias
However, the entire masonry guild of Stormwind was cheated out of their gold. Because Lady Onyxia enjoys sowing discord, the diligent workers who rebuilt Stormwind were never properly compensated. This led them to band together as the Defias Brotherhood and plot wicked revenge against Stormwind from the Deadmines. They robbed, looted, and swindled quite a few coins in the process. With the numerous bosses and different characters lurking in the Deadmines, there would be plenty of potential for fresh cards.
4. The Darkmoon Faire
Some players suspect that the gold might not be “coins,” but rather tokens from the Darkmoon Faire. The Faire appears to be a place full of joy and thrilling discoveries under the leadership of the gnome Silas Darkmoon. However, aside from all the attractions and fun features, the market also has a dark side. It is said that sinister forces are at work and Silas has bound the employees through blood oaths. Moreover, the Faire is not shy to make a “critic” simply disappear…
The various attractions would even provide some seriously cool boss fights.
The Darkmoon Faire was a big deal in the “old” Trading Card Game of Warcraft – which is still completely missing in Hearthstone.
5. The Treasure of Deathwing
The last idea is a bit farther-fetched, but that doesn’t mean much in Hearthstone. In the Broken Shore of the Legion expansion, players of WoW find the cave of Neltharion and within it a particularly large treasure that has since been taken over by kobolds. But how did Neltharion a.k.a. Deathwing come by this treasure? And which heroes wanted to stake a claim to this treasure? A cataclysmic event that has endured for several millennia is sure to have roasted many a creature, which would now make a fitting card.
