A coming horror movie excites critics and raises high expectations among genre fans. In it, a young man painfully realizes that wishes must be well thought out.
What kind of movie is this? Obsession is a new horror film by Curry Baker, who is primarily known as a comedian on social media. The film was first shown at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2025 and has since received positive reviews one after another.
Looking at the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, Obsession boasts an impressive score. From 33 reviews, it has an average of 97%. That’s as much as another highly praised horror film from 2025 achieved – Sinners, which you can learn more about on MeinMMO.
The accolades obviously raise high expectations. But what is Obsession actually about?
A wish must be well thought out
What does the film tell? The protagonist Bear is in love with Nikki. And really in love. He is a true romantic, but he has never dared to approach her and reveal his feelings.
One day, he finds an object in a store called “One Wish Willow.” If he breaks it, he can make a wish that will then come true. This comes in very handy for him. Although not much is known about the plot so far, we assume that Bear wishes for Nikki to also fall in love with him.
Similar things are suggested by the first teaser that you see above. There, Bear is sitting in his car, talking to the customer service of the aforementioned wish fulfiller. He is clearly distraught and asks if he can adjust the wish afterwards. And whether the love shown to him is real.
The trailer is deliberately vague and reveals little about the story. What consequences and implications the wish will have remain unclear. But since it is a horror film, it can be assumed that things will go wrong and take an unpleasant turn.

When is the film coming out? The rights for the theatrical release are held by Focus Features, which will release Obsession in the USA on May 15, 2026. There is no release date for Germany yet.
