The Twitch streamer Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris is not allowed to attend gamescom 2025. The content creator finds this unfair and explains his perspective in a livestream.
gamescom 2025 without MontanaBlack: This year’s gamescom had to take place without the Twitch streamer MontanaBlack. The content creator announced this in a conversation with Twitch colleague Max Schradin, who also claimed not to have been invited to gamescom.
According to an exclusive statement from gamescom to MeinMMO, the Twitch streamers were acknowledged through their own accreditation process, but safety concerns were raised, at least regarding MontanaBlack. While MontanaBlack is allowed to visit gamescom and stream from there, it can only be done from the Creator Co-Working Space.
“Distortion of competition”
Why can’t MontanaBlack join? The reason is simple: During the livestream from gamescom 2022, viewers always knew exactly where their favorite Twitch streamer was. This led to a huge crowd of fans constantly following MontanaBlack to be near their idol.
The consequence: Other attendees were bumped and shoved by the running fans. Incidents that caused a lot of outrage around the fair. To prevent this from happening again, the organizers of gamescom only allow MontanaBlack to stream in a limited capacity.
What does MontanaBlack say about it? In a livestream, MontanaBlack expressed what he thinks of the organizers’ decision at the Cologne fair. He appears visibly disappointed and says: “My reach is my downfall” (Source: twitch.tv).
A person in the chat noted that this should be considered “distortion of competition”. MontanaBlack agreed and mentioned that he feels the same way.
Whether the decision of gamescom really constitutes a form of “distortion of competition” remains questionable. Much more likely, the fair seems to have major safety concerns due to MontanaBlack’s large reach, which is why they can only offer the Twitch streamer the solution to stream from a secluded location. Meanwhile, another Twitch streamer made his way to gamescom with a longboard, saving a mother a lot of money.
