Everyone has their “dumb 5 minutes”. Today we want to hear about your most embarrassing MMO experiences!
No one is born a pro – not even in gaming. Each of us was once a complete beginner and a full-blooded noob. And sometimes we still have our famous “5 minutes”, where we all act pretty stupid and make ridiculous mistakes. Players on Reddit repeatedly share their experiences where they made naïve mistakes. Here are some amusing examples from World of Warcraft:
- TuuTuffTony wanted to use the priest spell “Power Word: Fortitude” by repeatedly typing “Fortitude” in the chat – after all, it was a Power Word.
- MaritMonkey had a 10/10/10 spec until level 50 – so 10 skill points in each talent tree. Only then did he learn that you can scroll further down in the talent trees.
- Green_speak found a grey item at the beginning of his career – a collar from a lynx. He thought he needed it to tame animals. Later, he was “super excited” when he roamed with a bear in the party that even showed him the way. Much later he found out that it was another player playing a druid.

Because stories like these are incredibly funny, we want to know from you today: What was the most embarrassing or noobish thing you ever did in an MMO? Was it a silly move? An ill-considered statement in chat? We want to hear your funniest stories!
Cortyn says: I make no secret of it – when I started with World of Warcraft during the Classic times, I had no clue about anything. I didn’t distribute any talent points until level 40 because I wanted to have a strong power increase “in one go”. I thought Polymorph from the mage was totally stupid. A spell that can turn someone into a sheep and they heal themselves really quickly? How ridiculous is that?
Or when weeks later someone explained to me in Scholomance what I could actually do with “Counterspell” (when the necromancers were pulled around the corner in the 2nd room) – yes, I felt pretty noobish. And I was. But in a way, that made it really nice.
But now we want to hear your stories! What was the noobiest thing you’ve ever done in an MMO?
