Battlefield 1 – Viva la France!
In the World War online shooter Battlefield 1, the release version included Germans, Americans, Ottomans, and Brits among others, but no French! However, the French army was involved in some of the war’s most brutal and well-known battles. With the first DLC “They Shall Not Pass”, both the French army and battlefields like Verdun or Soissons come into play in March.
The Hell of Verdun
The brutal Battle of Verdun is considered one of the bloodiest engagements on the Western Front. The title of the DLC “They Shall Not Pass” is derived from the phrase “On ne passe pas” of the local commander General Robert Nivelle.
The battlefield of Verdun represents a new map in the DLC for Battlefield 1. Additionally, there are maps like “Fort de Vaux” with its corridors, the tank battle of Soissons, and the poppy fields in “Break”.
In addition to the already known game modes, the DLC also brings a mode called “Frontlines”. This fits the setting of the First World War, as it is a tedious and bloody tug-of-war for control points. Only persistence and stamina lead to victory.
Tanks from the Future
With They Shall Not Pass, the French army enters the game with its own weapons and vehicles. Among them are the Ribeyrolles 1918, the RSC 1917, the Lebel Model 1886, the Chauchat, the Sjögren Inertial, and the MLE 1903 Extended.
In addition to simple French tanks like the St. Charmond, a new behemoth is also included. The gigantic “Char 2C” tank is a futuristic vehicle. In fact, the monster was only built in 1922, four years after the end of the war. However, a concept was already in place in 1917.
If you prefer not to bump around in musty tanks on the battlefield, you can look forward to the new elite class, the Trench Fighter. This rough guy is an excellent close combat fighter who knocks enemies out with a club and throws various grenades into trenches.
The DLC “They Shall Not Pass” for Battlefield 1 will be released on March 28 for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. However, those who have a premium pass can start as early as March 14 and fight for or against France.
