In Monster Hunter World you can catch various small animals and let them free as pets in your room. Some of them are rare and provide you with special rewards such as trophies or a lot of research points. We reveal where you can find and catch the animals for the trophies “A Living Fossil,” “Rex Rainbow,” “I’m Going Crazy” and “Bristles for Everyone.”
For the trophy hunters and collectors among you, there are particularly rare pets to catch in Monster Hunter World. There are a total of four particularly rare animals in Monster Hunter World that you can receive silver trophies for. Each time you catch one of these animals, you also receive a lot of research points.

“A Living Fossil” – Catch a Petricanths
Your task: Catch a fish known as “the living fossil.” – The fish is the “Petricanths.”
Here you can find the Petricanths and how to catch it:
- The Petricanths can be found in the Valley of Decay (Area 15) and in the Home of the Elders (Area 8)
- Here, the fish is located in the water where you need to cast your fishing line.
- You need to be equipped with a Ghillie Mantle and a Bait Bug!
- The Ghillie Mantle makes you invisible and prevents the Petricanths from fleeing from you.
- The Petricanths sparkles prominently blue in the water.
“Rex Rainbow” – Catch a Prisma-Herkudrom
Your task: Catch a creature that shines like a rainbow. – This is a colorful beetle named “Prisma-Herkudrom.”
Here you can find the Prisma-Herkudrom and how to catch it:
- Important Note: The beetle is crepuscular and can only be found in the evenings and mornings!
- The Prisma-Herkudrom is located in the Ancient Forest
- The beetle spawns here in Area 1, way far in the southeast, in a small dead end.
- You just need to wait until it spawns in the dead end.
- The Prisma-Herkudrom shines prominently and is quite large. As soon as you see the beetle, simply throw out your catching net.
“I’m Going Crazy” – Catch a Fluffy Chicken
Your task: Catch a fluffy and cuddly creature. – It is a small bird called “Fluffy Chicken.”
Here you can find the Fluffy Chicken and how to catch it:
- The Fluffy Chicken can be found in two areas:
- Ancient Forest (Area 1) – They spawn only on the back of Aptonoths.
- Wildspire Waste (Area 1) – They spawn only on the back of Apceros.
- The chickens spawn extremely rarely, so you will probably have to travel to the respective areas more often.
- Equip a Ghillie Mantle because otherwise the chickens will fly away as soon as they see you.

“Bristles for Everyone” – Catch a Kraushuhn
Your task: Catch a stiff, bristly creature. – This is a small bird called “Kraushuhn.”
Here you can find the Kraushuhn and how to catch it:
- The Kraushuhn is easiest to catch in the Valley of Decay (Area 15).
- Here is a small cave where a Mosswine is walking around. On the back of the Mosswine is the Kraushuhn.
- The Kraushuhn spawns rarely and you may need to travel to Area 15 more often.
- Approach only with a Ghillie Mantle, as the bird will fly away immediately otherwise.
