What makes Lunastra special? The Elder Dragon has an extremely high body temperature and is of the Fire element. She uses her powerful teeth like flint to ignite a blue dust. This envelops her in a flame aura that can constantly deal damage to you.
With her dangerous (fire) attacks, she inflicts area damage with a long range. Armor and items that provide fire resistance are a must against Lunastra.

Battle Strategy Tips: Cold Drinks and Fire Resistance are Important
Here you will find some tips on Lunastra’s attacks, useful items against her, and what you should generally pay attention to.
Lunastra is similar to Teostra – The two Elder Dragons represent a pair and therefore have similar attack patterns. However, Lunastra is more aggressive, has a longer range, and deals more damage to you. Nevertheless, you can expect a similar pattern.
Lunastra’s attacks have area damage with a long range – Her fire area attacks are particularly dangerous:
- a long fire explosion
- a short but fast flamethrower that she performs in a wide arc
- a kind of flying fire tornado
- a tail swipe that has a larger hitbox than Teostra’s
- a supernova that is stronger than Teostra’s. This is particularly dangerous and deals damage over time.
- almost every attack leaves blue fire pools that deal damage over time
Be sure to break Lunastra’s head – This significantly weakens her fire attacks. However, you should avoid a frontal attack, as Lunastra spews fire from her mouth.
Recognizing Lunastra in Rage Mode –When Lunastra is in Rage Mode, she glows in blue flames and leaves behind powder that can ignite her. You will take constant damage if you stand in it.
Bombs neutralize the powder: Constantly dodging the powder can be a disadvantage in battle. However, if you throw bombs at her, you can negate the effect.
Bring Frostshrooms for Cold Drinks – Cold drinks protect you from the extreme heat. To make a cold drink, you need 2x Frostshroom. It is best if you have both the drink and the mushrooms with you.
The Fire Resistance Mantle is useful – The Fire Resistance Mantle can be a small help, but it is less effective than cold drinks. Once you have completed the quest “No Mercy, No Surrender”, you also receive the Lifesaver Mantle, which is also extremely strong against Lunastra. This negates damage from powerful attacks through automatic evasion.
Shock Bombs are less effective – Unlike Teostra, Lunastra does not fall down from shock bombs. The shock bombs are only effective when Lunastra wants to fly away to another area and you want to prevent that. In the battle itself, they are useless.
Canteen – Before you take on Lunastra, get a meal with high elemental resistance. This is effective against fire attacks.
Use Crystal Explosions – These will startle Lunastra. You can find them in the Elder’s home scattered in lava and crystal areas. They also destroy fire pools.
Be careful with bombs: If Lunastra is sleeping and you place bombs near her, keep in mind that the bombs react with the fire pools and create a violent explosion.
