In a new trailer, Capcom not only revealed the release date of Monster Hunter Wilds but also introduced the most important monster in the game.
Which monster would that be? The flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds is Arkveld. The Hunter’s Commission also refers to it as “The White Wraith,” which can be translated as “The White Spirit” – and for good reason.

What’s in a name? On the one hand, there is of course the color of the monster, which is in a pale gray-white. Additionally, the White Wraith is a little-explored species of Flying Wyvern that has long been considered extinct.
Our task as hunters will likely be to fill in the research gaps: Where did the White Wraith come from so suddenly? What is its role in the ecosystem? One of the side characters in the trailer, a boy, seems to have a personal vendetta against the monster.
New powerful monsters and a release date
Of course, we will also hunt some examples of the Arkveld – we are still playing Monster Hunter after all. In the event of a battle, we should be wary of Arkveld’s chain-like extensions, which the monster can use as weapons.
The trailer also shows Arkveld fighting other monsters, such as the aquatic Uth Duna and the Flying Wyvern Rey Dau. On monsterhunter.com, the developers reveal that both stand at the top of the food chain in their natural habitat.
- The Uth Duna lives in the Scarlet Forest and is usually spotted during heavy rain. The monster can create a protective veil from the moisture in its environment.
- The Rey Dau is the apex predator of the Windward Plains and can not only fly but also generate lightning. It often appears accompanied by storms.
With the Quematrice, the developers also introduced a new Brute Wyvern in the trailer. It resembles an oversized, muscular rooster and can inflict fire damage.
When will Monster Hunter Wilds be released? The action RPG is set to be released on February 28, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and for PC on Steam.
