So far, Capcom has given players of Monster Hunter Wilds a lot of freedom when it comes to mods and cheats. This is set to change, as an official statement shows.
Why is Capcom now taking action against cheaters? On Friday, April 4, 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds will receive its first major update with TU1 (Title Update 1). In addition to new challenges and monsters, arena quests will also be added, where you can compete with other players.
In doing so, you can secure a spot on the official leaderboard as well as exclusive rewards for participation and placement. Those who complete the tasks with pre-made armors the fastest will achieve high rankings.
Prior to this, there had been concerns from the community as many players resorted to mods and cheats due to Capcom’s previously liberal policy, manipulating the gaming experience for themselves, but also for others – much to the annoyance of the affected players.
Therefore, Capcom now wants to take action to ensure that the new challenges remain fair and entertaining. They will provide the details in a freshly released statement via x.com. However, there is also a catch that can affect players who are not cheating themselves.
Ban Despite Fair Play?
How does Capcom plan to tackle cheats? The statement mentions that players participating in fraudulent leaderboard activities can be banned or have restrictions imposed on them. This applies to both obvious cheats and external programs (mods). Groups in which at least one player is found to engage in prohibited actions will not be listed on the leaderboard and will receive no rewards for it.
The measures specifically also affect players who do not use programs themselves but are part of groups where at least one player violates these guidelines. Participants are therefore encouraged to report suspicious teammates in order not to get caught in the crossfire themselves.
However, individuals who are mistakenly suspected of engaging in prohibited behaviors will not be compensated later with participation and leaderboard rewards. Therefore, you should handle reports from other players carefully.
So far, these measures apparently only affect leaderboard battles. Nevertheless, you should also be cautious outside of that and especially make sure not to jeopardize other players’ gaming experience. Because already in March, there were reports of players whose accounts were banned.
Some players also use mods to impose other challenges on themselves. However, it can also easily happen that you unknowingly join such modded quests, as this is usually not apparent from the outside: Be careful which quests you join in Monster Hunter Wilds, it could be a trap
