Since release, Monster Hunter Wilds has been struggling with negative feedback and the departure of many players. Title Update 2 will be released soon and shows in the trailer how it aims to bring fans back.
What does TU2 offer? In the last livestream via YouTube, the trailer for the next big update of Monster Hunter Wilds, Title Update 2, was revealed, which will be released on June 30, 2025. In it, the highly anticipated monster Lagiacrus is shown in action, first fighting a Rathalos and then a Hunter.
Also featured is a mechanic that hasn’t been seen in this way for 16 years: In the fight against Lagiacrus, you will be able to encounter him underwater again.
While you can’t freely fight him, there will be preset actions you can take – still, the underwater scenery somehow belongs to Lagiacrus. Whether these scenes will appear in every quest with him or if they are more of a special moment that occurs only under certain circumstances remains to be seen.
You can catch the first impressions of the special actions in the trailer. A collaboration with guitar manufacturer Fender is also announced, along with a demonstration of the Layered Weapons feature. You can also disable the glowing buffs starting with TU2, which many fans are looking forward to.
Also, Seregios, another fan favorite affectionately known as “Steve,” and a hot candidate for a return, will be joining the ranks of monsters with Title Update 2. A battle-hardened Uth Duna will also complement the lineup. A roadmap up to September has also been shown.
In the new trailer, you can see it all in action:
Will the update bring players back? – Community is divided
Why has Monster Hunter Wilds lost so many players? Upon release, the game hit like a bomb and attracted over 1.3 million players. On Metacritic, it had a score of 90, and it became a bestseller on Steam. However, nearly 4 months later, things look significantly more negative.
Reviews on Steam are becoming increasingly negative. Currently, only 14% of the recent reviews (over 13,170) on Steam are positive (as of June 27, 2025, 09:40). This means the game is rated in the “Very Negative” range, and when including all reviews, it barely reaches “Mixed. “
At release, Monster Hunter Wilds had around 1,384,608 players; today, however, it only has 13,069 in the 24-hour peak (via SteamDB, as of June 27, 2025, 9:40 AM). This indicates a drop of around 99% of the players.
Criticism is particularly directed at technical problems like performance, copy protection, or graphical errors. However, a somewhat unmotivating endgame and lack of content are also frequently mentioned as negative points (via Steam). The latter is now being refreshed with long-awaited fan requests with Title Update 2.
But as long as little changes regarding performance issues, it remains questionable whether the update can achieve the desired influx of players.

How does the community see the update? Many fans are looking forward to the update with the features and monsters that have been requested for a long time, even if the reintroduction of underwater elements divides the opinions of the community.
Others criticize the limited scope of the roadmap until September. Still, others point out that once again, little is done to address performance issues.
- CleR6 writes via Reddit: “I am VERY excited about these two beasts. Lagiacrus looks beautiful, and I think I will like the small underwater parts of the fight.”
- SilverDrifter comments via Reddit: “Seregios is my favorite flying monster in Rise. I am really excited!”
- Guywars expresses concerns via Reddit about the underwater elements: “That’s cool, but I’m afraid it could feel very scripted each time, similar to the fight with Jin Dahdad, where you go through the same events every time.”
- catsflatsandhats shares via Reddit: “I am most excited about the layered weapons and disabling the buff glow.”
- MammothBarnacle8833 criticizes via Reddit: “The third Title Update at the end of September is really disappointing. That’s still three months away, and there’s still no news on the PC performance. At least TU2 will be fun for a while.”
The community is showing itself to be quite divided regarding the future of the game. Nevertheless, many players are looking forward to the new update – even though it would be more than desirable for the performance issues to be addressed more clearly.
With TU2, two long-awaited monsters return, and several clear requests from the community are being addressed. Whether these new features will draw many players back into the game and keep them remains to be seen.
