The fishing in Monster Hunter Wilds is a mechanic where you obtain materials and guild points by catching fish. MeinMMO explains how to unlock the fishing rod and the best ways to fish.
Unlocking Fishing
Here’s how to unlock fishing: To get your fishing rod, you need to complete the last quest of Chapter 1-2, “Village of Whispering Winds.” After rescuing the team from the enraged Quematrice, you will finally receive your fishing rod.
In Chapter 1-3, the first side quest becomes available: “Fishing: Life in the Microcosm.” From here, you will be introduced to the world of fishing.
To do this, talk to Kanya at the base camp, and you will receive various baits and reels to catch different types of fish. As a bonus, there’s a guide on fishing. You can then start the side quest “Fishing: Life in the Microcosm.”
How to Fish Properly
Cast your line: Once you have your fishing rod, equip it like any other item using the radial menu in the game. You can then cast your fishing rod. You can move the bait with the mouse pointer or joystick. To start fishing, go to any body of water where there are fish.
However, keep this in mind:
- It is important how you move the bait in the water: Different fish respond to different movements. So if you’re trying to catch a new type of fish, you need to choose different approaches.
- Some fish and creatures only appear at certain times or under specific weather conditions.
Catching Fish: When a fish bites, the fishing rod bends slightly, and the water around the bait splashes. This is the moment when you should reel in the fishing rod or bait. If you are successful, you will receive materials and guild points. What you get depends on the fish caught.
What alternatives are there? You can also catch fish with a catching net. This is especially effective for catching multiple fish at once. However, the catching net is not very practical if the fish is farther from the shore, as it has a limited range.
