Camelot Unchained – Someone really wants to know
What people thought in 2016: They thought Camelot Unchained would get moving, draw attention, and become playable in some form. After all, a beta had long been promised.
This is what really happened in 2017: They continue to develop. In 2017, there was really no reason for “non-hardcore fans” to think about Camelot Unchained even once. Certainly, they communicate a lot with their fans and backers – however, Camelot Unchained played hardly any role in the wider public in 2017.
Conclusion: It’s the same phenomenon as with Crowfall: An indie studio goes public early, gathers its fan base around it, then retreats and develops in close communication with hardcore fans. Outside this circle, only a few are interested in the game.
The YouTube channel of City State Games has many videos with developers, but most have around 60 to 120 views. Weekly summaries are at 700-900 views.
We wish Camelot Unchained the best, but there are some warning signs with the numerous delays and the huge tasks the team has set for itself. One can only hope that Camelot Unchained does not run out of money.
