It’s time for our MeinMMO format “MMORPG news in two minutes.” We summarize the most important news about the best genre in the world for you. Look forward to more information about WoW housing, a new PvE MMORPG, fresh servers, and much more.
The highlights of the week:
- Blizzard plans a huge change to WoW, banning add-ons and wants you to be able to play with just one button. Will the game become easier as a result? Here’s MeinMMO demon Cortyn’s assessment.
- As soon as 200 guilds have fully mastered the current raid instance of World of Warcraft on mythic difficulty, they will be included in the corresponding Hall of Fame and secure an exclusive achievement. However, something went wrong during the current awarding, which is quite embarrassing for Blizzard.
- On blizzard.com, the WoW developers provided insight into the upcoming housing rewards. Most of the decorations are expected to be available from vendors, other players via the auction house, or through quest completion. There will not be a new profession. All primary crafting professions will be able to create decorations.
- On April 29, 2025, a new update was released for DC Universe Online, which included a new campaign chapter, private matchmaking, and improved graphics for PC. You can find the details on dcuniverseonline.com.
- With the PvE MMORPG Embers Adrift, a new representative of the genre has officially been released on Steam – which focuses on cooperative group content and aims to do without a shop or microtransactions. The fun is expected to cost around 29 euros.
What else has happened? The team responsible for Dungeons & Dragons Online has announced plans to permanently open the 64-bit server Cormyr for all interested players (via ddo.com). Previously, a paid VIP status was required for access. The developers at Standing Stone Games are repeating something that was very successful in Lord of the Rings Online.
Standing Stone Games also takes care of Lord of the Rings Online – here’s the trailer for the current expansion “Morgoth’s Legacy”:
New MMORPG will be “Open Source” before release
This happened with the major MMORPGs:
- On May 2, the Mythic Dungeon International of WoW returned. You can find all the details on blizzard.com. Additionally, from April 28 to May 5, Children’s Week is taking place in WoW – with some new features (via blizzard.com).
- Phase 4 of WoW Classic Anniversary has started this week, featuring Zul’Gurub, the Tier-0.5 class sets, the Dragons of Nightmare, Fisherman’s Competition in Stranglethorn Vale, and the awakening of the Silithid. All details are available at blizzard.com.
- A skill that many already know from the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, is also coming to World of Warcraft – for everyone.
- A big buff on the latest reputation faction in World of Warcraft means you can now quickly obtain all the rewards you want.
- The current antagonist of World of Warcraft has many secrets left. Her origin will be explained more in the next patch – with a cut scene.
- There are some spells in WoW that have no use concerning the battles for the well-being of Azeroth, but which can still bring a lot of joy. One of these harmless skills has been used by monks for many years to relax while fishing. But that is no longer possible from now on.
- A WoW player has been dealing with a bug for 12 years – It takes an extreme lucky day to find a Blizzard employee who can help.
- Imagine losing someone important to you way too early, and many years later you find out that they have been immortalized by Blizzard developers in WoW. That is exactly what happened this week.
- When the chapter Gold Road brought the new writing system to The Elder Scrolls Online, the criticism was loud. The fact that you have to pay extra for the ability to create new skills did not go down well with many players. More than a year later, the developers are changing just that.
- The developers of The Elder Scrolls Online have revealed on elderscrollsonline.com what fans of the MMORPG can look forward to in May. Among other things, the Golden Project “To Celebrate the Day,” the Crime Wave event, and a Relic Hunting weekend will be introduced. Additionally, you can secure a new home this month.
