Sometimes interesting games come out of nowhere – such as the sandbox MMORPG Ashes of Creation.
With Ashes of Creation, the indie studio Intrepid aims to provide you with a fantasy world that dynamically changes based on your actions. Essentially, it is a sandbox. You are free to do what you want.
Gathering resources and crafting play a significant role, as the game’s economy is intended to be driven by the players. So blacksmiths are needed to supply you with weapons, as well as miners who bring ore to the blacksmiths. Together, players can establish entire cities and design their homes as they see fit.
PvP plays an important role
There will be regional markets, but players can embark as traders to other areas and try to sell their goods for profit. However, such a journey can be dangerous, so it makes sense for traders to form caravans and hire mercenaries for protection, who are, of course, also played by players. A caravan automatically creates a PvP zone around itself, which makes ambushes almost a given.
In the game, there will also be static PvP zones where any player can be attacked by other players. Additionally, it’s possible to “flag” for PvP, meaning you can fight against other flagged players everywhere. Massive siege battles will also take place regularly, in which everyone can participate. Whoever conquers a castle gains control over the surrounding lands. Of course, there are also many wild animals and monsters that will attack you in the wilderness.
A changing world
Although Ashes of Creation is a sandbox MMORPG, quests also play a role. You can experience stories created by the developers through quests or even create your own quests. Your actions will even impact the world and change it. The developers place great importance on making the game world dynamic. Cities can be destroyed. Through politics, entire empires can fall.
Ashes of Creation is still in an early phase. First videos showcase the ambitious game that is being financed out of the developers’ own pockets. No release date has yet been announced.

Andreas says:
Ashes of Creation sounds very ambitious. Hopefully, the developers won’t overreach. That has caused other projects to fail. However, the MMORPG sounds extremely promising. The screenshots and videos also look very encouraging. One can only hope that Ashes of Creation actually gets released someday…
