The online shooter Planetside 2 is receiving the largest update since 2016, addressing a very important issue. A new faction is being introduced to “fill” the game’s population.
What does the new update bring? The New Soldier introduces a series of improvements to the game that players say have been needed for a long time.
- The new faction NSO – Nanite System Operatives.
- Support for DirectX 11 to significantly improve performance. This is expected to make it easier for the team to create updates in the future.
- A new event centered around vehicles, where two refineries must be filled and sent into orbit.
- The Wasp Prototype as a new aircraft.
- An optimized spawn system.
- New mentor squads.
- A revised UI.
- Better tutorials to help newcomers find their way faster.

More players, even if they are just robots
What is special about the update? The highlight introduces the NSO faction. These consist of robots that join the faction in the game with the least players.
This addresses a significant problem of the online shooter. The dwindling population of the title leads to imbalanced factions in battles, causing balancing issues.
With the new faction, the developers are circumventing a queue to fill the parties, ensuring a balanced ratio. The robots simply fill the spots of the faction that has the least players going into battle.
What abilities do the robots have? The NSO fights with nanite weapons and has the same hitboxes, health points, and movements as all other characters. They represent fully-fledged soldiers in combat but act according to their own directives.
The NSO is part of a new storyline for Planetside 2, which will be further developed in the future.
When will the update come? The New Soldier will be launched today, April 25.
There are issues
What do players think about the update? Many are excited, especially about the DirectX 11 support. Because the MMO shooter Planetside 2 has been struggling with performance issues, which hopefully will be a thing of the past with the new update.
However, some could already test the update on the test server and are surprised that it is released today. Because according to bug reports, there are still about 100 bugs open that should actually be fixed. Fans fear that this will not be possible in such a short time, and thus the update may appear buggy.
[KOTV] Errol sarcastically comments on Reddit: “Good to know that all bugs have been fixed and the patch works perfectly on the first day. There’s no reason to be concerned!”
How the update The New Soldier for Planetside 2 will be received and how well it will perform will be seen after the release.
