The online action game Mirage: Arcane Warfare was on the brink of collapse. With eight players active at the same time, no online game can be sustained in the long run.
The developers of Mirage: Arcane Warfare decided to launch a free promotion. Last weekend, on September 9th and 10th, everyone could get the online game for free and keep it. It is now back on sale at a discounted price. This promotion seems to have saved the game – at least for now.

Player numbers have risen sharply
According to Steamcharts, during peak times of the free promotion, there were more than 43,000 players active simultaneously. This is a huge jump, but it has since leveled off. The number of players has currently stabilized around 830 simultaneous players.
Steamspy reports that around 1.2 million players own the online game. This means that a significant number of players acquired the title over the free weekend. It is estimated that around 1 million new players have joined.
The free promotion was a success
The developers are very enthusiastic about the promotion. The experiment worked and was a great success. The influx of players even caused some server problems, which are now being addressed. A patch is expected to be released soon.
It remains to be seen whether Mirage: Arcane Warfare can maintain its player base. We will find out in the coming weeks.
