The community of the game Minecraft is currently discussing serious allegations against streamer Jikishi, who is accused of having sexual relationships with minors. This is referred to as “grooming.” Minecraft YouTuber Dream has kicked the streamer off his server and stated that he is disgusted by the allegations. Dream had previously discovered and supported the small streamer.
This is the situation:
- Dream is an extremely popular YouTuber for Minecraft. The speedrunner, who never shows his face, has nearly 27 million subscribers, and his videos regularly reach between 10 and 60 million people.
- Several months ago, Dream discovered the relatively small streamer Jikishi and decided to promote him. He invited him to his private Minecraft server, which led to a boost in Jikishi’s popularity. He suddenly became relevant.
- However, allegations from Jikishi’s past have now surfaced.
This is currently shaking the Minecraft community: On October 25, several individuals came forward via social media, reporting that they had sexual experiences with streamer Jikishi when they were minors.
The reports show parallels: it appears that initial contacts happened when the individuals were very young. They met in Minecraft, communicated daily, and built a trust base. The individuals claim Jikishi was their friend or even best friend. They spoke daily. However, the friendly relationship quickly turned sexual.
One Twitter user says: The streamer was 18/19 at the time, she was 14/15 when sexually explicit photos were exchanged. Some time later, the streamer wanted to arrange a meeting in a hotel (via twitter).
Another Twitter user said she was 14 and he was 19. She had helped him with his videos, and he constantly asked her for nude photos and videos. She ended the sexual relationship with him, but he wanted to remain “friends with benefits” (via twitter).
“Grooming”, the targeted manipulation of minors with the intent of preparing sexual acts, is one of the topics in our conversation with cyber criminologist Dr. iur. Thomas-Gabriel Rüdiger:
Dream discovers small streamer and helps him grow – now disappointed
What does this have to do with Dream? The extremely popular YouTuber Dream was responsible for a career boost for Jikishi in recent weeks, who had long been a small streamer.
Dream had met the streamer in Minecraft, found him entertaining, and then invited him to his Minecraft SMP (via youtube). This led to a popularity boost for the streamer.
As the site Dexerto reports, Dream has now sharply distanced himself from Jikishi. He kicked him from his private Minecraft server, SMP, and said: He privately admitted that the allegations were correct. There is no tolerance for such things. Dream said he was disgusted and incredibly disappointed.
Dream further states: People must stand together, be there for those who need support, and always try to be safe online.
He will not stop trying to uplift people from his community and small streamers.
How is Jikishi reacting? Jikishi’s social media channels have not commented on this incident. On Twitter, the posts stop at the moment the allegations arose. The Twitch account has been deleted, and there are no more videos on the YouTube channel.
The last stream from Jikishi on Twitch, before his channel was deleted, had an average of 7,200 viewers – which is 114 times his viewer average over the last 365 days.
Dream holds an exceptional position in Minecraft because he is so popular. For smaller YouTubers, collaboration with him means a breakthrough and can be life-changing:
