How Electronic Arts wants to handle microtransactions in the online shooter Star Wars Battlefront 2 is still not very clear to the company itself.
During the Nasdaq Investor Conference, EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen explained that the company is focusing on listening to what the players want.
Over time, they will then address the issue of microtransactions in Battlefront 2 and decide whether they will reintroduce them into the game or not. And if they bring them back, a decision must be made on how that will happen.

Electronic Arts has not yet decided anything regarding microtransactions
So far, it has been said that microtransactions will definitely find their way back into the online shooter. However, EA was unsure how these would look after the loot boxes were heavily criticized by players and the media at the game’s release.
Now it is said that they might not bring them back after all. Apparently, EA needs to develop a plan on how the company wants to proceed.
According to Blake Jorgensen, the launch of Star Wars Battlefront 2 was a great learning experience. Players love the online shooter, according to the CFO, and he believes that the game will continue to sell into the upcoming year through the holidays and the end of the year.

What works in one game may not work in another
When asked whether the “Ultimate Teams” system known from EA’s sports games can also be adopted in the online shooter, Jorgensen replied that one must find the right mix that keeps players engaged and entertained for a long time. It all comes down to giving customers what they want, and that can differ between a shooter and what works well in a sports game.
In the future, EA wants to develop fewer new titles, but offer customers what they want in a game – and even more.
Video games provide great entertainment value for around 60 dollars. Sometimes 3,000 hours or more. If additional money is spent, it further enhances the joy of gaming. This is what EA wants to focus on: keeping players in a game longer.
The microtransactions of Star Wars Battlefront 2 divide the player base, as can be seen in the ratings on Metacritic.
