Microsoft has announced a modern remake of the original Halo, which will be released on PS5 on the first day of release.
Which franchise is it about? Released in 2001, Halo: Combat Evolved was developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft; it was meant to kick off a legendary shooter series that has since seen numerous sequels.
The journey of Halo began on the Xbox and expanded to the PC over the years. However, until now, players on Sony PlayStation consoles have missed out. While Halo was one of the major exclusive titles on Xbox for many years, PlayStation players have been waiting in vain. This is changing now, as reported by the colleagues at GamePro.
Which Halo is coming to PS5? Microsoft has officially presented a remake of the first original Halo, which will also be released for PS5: Halo: Campaign Evolved. You can see the first trailer of the game in new graphical splendor here:

What kind of game is that? Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake of the campaign of the first Halos, Halo: Combat Evolved. The shooter will be released in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 and will be included in selected versions of Game Pass on release day.
Halo: Campaign Evolved remains true to the story of the original game but also features three new missions with Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson, which take place before the actual story. You can play the three new missions as well as the original story with friends in 4-player online co-op or 2-player couch co-op. Online crossplay is also supported.
As part of the remake, the controls, sound design, and of course the graphics have been improved. Visually, the remake is impressive thanks to Unreal Engine 5.
The end of the console war is becoming increasingly clear: It is now clear that the console war is largely over.
After Xbox Chief Phil Spencer emphasized in February 2025 that he – unlike before – does not want to bring all players to Xbox anymore, Microsoft is now showing with various releases that they want to gradually offer former exclusives on PlayStation.
The kickoff for the release of Xbox games on Sony consoles started earlier this year with games like Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones. These quickly made it onto the wish lists of many PlayStation players: Gamers finally end the console war: Even players on PS5 look forward to new Xbox titles
