Microsoft regularly cleans up Windows and replaces old features. This time, the US company is likely focusing on the Control Panel, which is set to disappear soon. And soon means in the fall of 2024.
As reported by our colleagues at br.IGN, one of Microsoft’s main plans is to retire the Windows Control Panel. In recent years, many gamers probably configured settings through this tool or the tab under Windows. And since 1994, the “Control Panel” has been an essential part of Microsoft’s operating system.
However, since Windows 11, Microsoft has been integrating many features into other areas or completely restructuring settings. And with that, Microsoft is saying goodbye to the popular feature.

When is the update coming? The next update for Windows 11 is version 24H2 and is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2024. This is known as a “feature update:” These updates add new features and functions to Windows and are typically released once a year. Otherwise, there are only security updates and bug fixes.
The next update is expected to move font management, power (for laptops), and storage into the settings tab. This will remove the functions from the Control Panel.
In the long term, the Control Panel is likely to completely disappear from Windows 11 sooner or later. Because the US company is actively restructuring its operating system. To the dismay of those who have become accustomed to certain menus and settings.
This is not entirely surprising, as according to our French colleagues at Jeuxvideo, the Control Panel was intended to be “temporary” anyway. And that for a good 30 years.
