Multiplayer and Online Games
Many do not want to be alone when they feel bad. Here, online and multiplayer games offer the perfect solution for many of you. You can choose whether to play with or against friends, prefer to meet strangers, or just wander through an MMO alone and enjoy the hustle and bustle around you.
The following games have been recommended by you:
World of Warcraft
Genre: MMORPG | Developer: Blizzard Entertainment | Platform: PC | Release Date: November 23, 2004
What is it about? In the MMO, you encounter familiar characters from the Warcraft universe, complete quests, and test your skills in dungeons and raids.
DrGn_Rakashii writes this on MeinMMO:
World of Warcraft is my way to tranquil peace in stressful phases. Just switch off, level up a bit, and dive into my favorite game world. The game has already brought me moments of peace and relaxation during some tough times!
I have only love for this game.
Town of Salem
Genre: Strategy | Developer: BlankMediaGames | Platform: PC, PS4, Android, iOS | Release Date: December 15, 2014
What is it about? Similar to the party game Werewolf, you must find out who your friend is and who your enemy is. It’s about convincing your fellow players and possibly leading them astray to achieve your goals.
KonoNana says this on MeinMMO:
In the past, I know that Trouble in Terrorist Town in Garry’s Mod helped me when I wasn’t feeling well (whether mentally or physically ill) and during my major depression a few years ago, Town of Salem really helped me keep somewhat sane…
Cozy Games
Of course, there are also simply classic feel-good games where everything is right and we don’t have to become monster-slaying heroes. Instead, the everyday life of video games consists of many quiet tasks like managing a farm or organizing a bookstore. The umbrella term for such games is Cozy Games.
The following games have been recommended by you:
My Time at Portia
Genre: Role-Playing Game | Developer: Pathea | Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS | Release Date: January 23, 2018
What is it about? Build a new life for yourself in the city of Portia by taking over your father’s workshop. Make friends with the villagers and explore old ruins and dungeons where monsters await you.
Xcoon recommends this on MeinMMO:
When I have life crises, which fortunately happens rarely, I play games like My Time at Portia, I find it colorfully/graphically soothing, one does not have to think or strain oneself and positive NPCs can’t hurt either.
Frog Detective
Genre: Point&Click Adventure | Developer: Worm Club| Platform: PC | Release Date: November 22, 2018
What is it about? A sloth has been annoyed by a ghost for weeks. Now it is up to you to find the culprit and as a detective frog to find the right clues.
DeLucios says on GameStar:
Frog Detective! It’s cute, wholesome and really funny. That’s always a go-to for me when I’m not feeling well.
More Recommendations
Since we could not reliably categorize everything, here are a few more recommendations from games that you turn to when you are not feeling well:
Don Schorschi says on GameStar:
Clearly: Half Life! Nothing is better for mental health than hacking a few aliens with a crowbar.
ALEX1969 recommends on GamePro:
For me, Uncharted 4 is always the best remedy. It’s like a vacation. I feel comfortable and happy. Like returning to your sheltered childhood home…:)
Chin Crimson suggests on GameStar:
When I’m not feeling well, I turn to Plants vs. Zombies. The original is brilliant, but the Garden Warfares are also wonderfully quirky. Right now, I enjoy playing the new title Battle For Neighborville on GamePass to forget the everyday life or kill time. I can really laugh heartily, even when I lose. Just play mindlessly and have joy.
Teut Busnet also recommends on GameStar:
“Lonely Mountains: Downhill” has helped me get out of negative thought spirals, and to do something constructive at all. It is challenging without being frustrating, and in that sense immersive, as you have to fully concentrate, while quickly accumulating successful experiences, and it always goes on quickly (after a fall you can start again immediately, or from the last checkpoint, as there is hardly any frustration since the game is well controllable, and you learn the course profiles playfully), so you can switch off negative thoughts well. Furthermore, the atmosphere of the game is friendly, warm light, beautiful colors, nature (even if in a somewhat abstract graphic style), birds chirping… There are also always new “seasons” where you can compete with the community. Overall, a fantastic game!.
Unfortunately, we could not list all the recommendations you suggested to us. If there are still games missing from this list or if you would like to suggest more tips to your fellow human beings, feel free to write them in the comments.
