It is always a special event when a new MMO or online game is released. Everyone has different methods to prepare for such a release. What do you do when a launch is imminent?
It’s like Christmas every time: An online game that you’ve been eagerly anticipating finally gets released. Now it’s time to indulge in all that excitement and play as much as possible. But without good preparation, the fun might quickly be dampened, for example, when food runs low, your partner is grumpy, or your house cat rolls around on the keyboard out of boredom. How can such annoyances be best avoided?
Preparing for Releases – Stocking Up on Food or Delivery Service?
A major problem for hardcore gamers are basic needs like food and adequate hydration. After all, dehydration and low blood sugar can force any gamer to their knees more effectively than the hard mode raid boss.
Therefore, many players stockpile supplies before a release. Best are foods that can be quickly consumed without much effort while gaming, such as chocolate or ready-to-eat meals like microwaveable curry sausages, instant noodles, and of course, energy drinks.
Those living in well-developed regions can also order delicious dishes from a delivery service, ideally online and paid in advance via PayPal. This saves time during food delivery, as you don’t have to bother with payment and can quickly grab the delivery box from the courier’s hands and get back to gaming with minimal time loss.
Game Release – What to Do with Dog, Cat, and Partner?
Having a partner is usually a great thing, especially if you share a hobby and play together, or if your other half lovingly serves food at your gaming spot. It’s a different story if you live with someone whose fascination for virtual adventures is minimal or non-existent.
So how can you make it clear to your partner that you will be busy for the next few hours and days? Ideally with loving cunning, for example, by suggesting to your boyfriend or girlfriend beforehand to meet up with their old friends again and “coincidentally” proposing to spend the weekend of the new MMO release together.
Cave Canem – The Dog is a Problem
Alternatively, you could treat your partner to a weekend at a wellness center or book tickets for a festival or concert of their favorite band. Just make sure not to make it too obvious that you are effectively sending your partner away to be able to game in peace.
Pets are much harder to manage. The loyal dog, in particular, needs its exercise, and Fido doesn’t really care that a raid is currently going on. If you have a cat that goes outside, at least you can send the critter outdoors for the rest of the day. Indoor cats can usually be entertained for hours with catnip and a new toy.
But enough examples, how do you behave specifically during new game releases? Do you follow the approaches described above or do you have your own methods? Let us know in the comments!
