I wish you all a nice Wednesday afternoon or whatever time it is when you read this. Blabla, no more beating around the bush, let’s talk about Hearthstone!
For almost a week now, the new expansion “Whispers of the Old Gods” has been live and has turned the entire game upside down. The old meta has been (finally!) shattered and the many new cards offer numerous possibilities for interesting decks and memorable moments, a prime example of which is Yogg-Saron.
However, in the last few nights, during which I’ve played until unconscious done a lot of research for the site, certain decks are popping up again more frequently. Especially Warlocks and Shamans seem to have drawn the golden lot of “rush decks” this time. I have an example here for you that feels like it has been copied a million times. Kripparian’s “Zoolock” is pure pestilence and you encounter it over and over again at rank 20. No question, the deck is good. Damn good.
If your own deck is not completely geared towards “countering”, you can usually pack it in. And when you’ve managed to create a decent deck with great difficulty (which is not so easy with still many missing cards), then of course the Evolve Shaman comes around the corner, whom I can only tolerate because of his name.
Whispers of the Old Gods is incredibly fun for me, but the fact that already – after almost a week – three to four archetypes of decks are asserting themselves again, bothers me a bit. Especially the good “face” variants are getting on my nerves.
In the meantime, I have gone back to putting my life and gold completely in the hands of Lord and Savior Yogg-Saron, because he at least has a realistic chance of turning the tide. Sometimes he’s also a real diva and punishes me with pyroblasts.
Long story short: The “current favorite decks” of the community annoy me. Come on, people smarter than me, build such strong counter decks that Warlocks disappear again!
How do you like the latest expansion so far? Are you still building your own decks or have you already started copying “good” decks from various databases and streamers to at least keep up? Or have you joined the all-encompassing teachings of Yogg-Saron?
