Patch 2.6.1 in Diablo 3 significantly adjusts the balance. Many more sets should fit into the meta and provide enjoyment. Blizzard explains what changes await you.
The balancing in Diablo 3 has had weaknesses for a long time. In recent seasons, we have seen more and more that the builds for the meta, to play at the top, were limited. The new Patch 2.6.1 is supposed to open many new doors in this area.
Blizzard gives more love to the weaker sets.
More power for Whirlwind, Frozen Orb, and more
Testing for balancing in Patch 2.6.1 is already completed on the PTR servers. Now, they are only focused on fixing issues like game crashes. Until everything is sorted out, we have to wait for the new update on the live servers.
In the update, Blizzard listened to feedback and set two main goals:
- All classes should be able to compete with different builds and playstyles in similar difficulty levels.
- The experience should be overall more balanced at higher levels.
The developers aim to achieve the diversity of sets through many variations of builds. For a balanced experience, builds should be playable well both in dense mob masses and in groups.
With these goals in mind, they are focusing on old favorites such as Whirlwind, Frozen Orb, or Exploding Hand builds that are particularly suited for changes.
The hard path of balance
In the major balance patch 2.6.1, the developers did not align all builds “in line”, but that wouldn’t be a bad thing. “Some builds are just fun and are rather a springboard for higher difficulty levels or for farming. Such builds are also important and not every build is suitable for every task.”
You can look forward to the following changes in the new Patch 2.6.1 when it appears on the live servers of Diablo 3.
- Barbarians
- The developers have had the Whirlwind Barbarian in their sights for a long time. From previous buffs to defensive adjustments to the 4-piece soul bonus and Band of Might, players wanted more survivability. “Let’s spin to victory in the name of Bul-Kathos!”
- Wizards
- Halo of Karini is described as effective, “but unwieldy”. The buff is supposed to be more usable with the patch. You won’t have to wait as long between uses.
- Additionally, other playstyles for the wizard will be strengthened so that Archon no longer stands alone at the top.
- Necromancers
- With Dayntee’s Binding, the developers have generally been satisfied, but the curses have rarely been useful. The affix for this item will now be opened for all curses, significantly increasing its usability – especially in groups with multiple necromancers.
- Witches
- As a dot doctor, you have been “so-so” with the Jade set. Additional defensive bonuses should soon provide more stability for the set.
Good news also comes for Demon Hunters, Monks, and Crusaders. The developers expect that in the new patch the skills Multi-Shot, Exploding Hand and Blessed Shield will be used much more often.
The patch aims for stronger balancing but does not target the strong sets. They did not want to weaken the overpowering sets but rather bring more sets up to speed. This way, many iconic sets and playstyles should become popular again.
When is Diablo 3 Patch 2.6.1 Release?
The developers did not mention a specific release date in the blog post. They explained that there will be no further class changes, but they will focus on bugs and performance issues.
We are making no further changes and instead focusing on bugs and performance issues to put the necessary finishing touches on the patch before release. This could take some time, so at some point no new changes should be added.
