Master X Master, NCSoft’s top-down shooter co-op MOBA, will soon be thoroughly tested again. Additionally, the developers introduced some new features of the game at Gamescom 2016.
Master X Master will start another alpha test phase on August 25, and anyone who has a key can join in until September 1. This time, the fun will primarily come from servers in Europe, and a German client will be available.

But that’s not all, because at Gamescom 2016 we were at NCSoft’s booth and were able to see some of the new features in Master X Master. Above all, there is a completely new co-op stage called “Ruins of Ascalon.” This name should cause nervous twitches among players of Guild Wars 2, as this instance was extremely difficult at the start of Arenanet’s MMORPG and very frustrating and slow due to some unfavorable game mechanics.
But don’t worry, the version in Master X Master runs much smoother and is in many details closely modeled after the original. For example, there are again the fire-breathing gargoyles and at the end, King Adelbern as a boss. In addition, we escort the hero Rytlock Brimstone through the instance.
New heroes and minigames
In addition to the new dungeon, there is a new heroine named Lua, who replaces the cannon minion Taejin in our starting selection. However, he will still be available in the game but must be unlocked. Lua is a straightforward ranged fighter and is designed to better fit the starting selection with her abilities and playstyle.
Furthermore, the lobby has been thoroughly redesigned and now extends over several levels, making it not feel as crowded as before. While we wait, we can even play the game’s soundtrack on a jukebox. In addition to the usual game modes, the developers have also packed a whole bunch of fun minigames into the game, such as a kind of sidescroller jump’n run and other jumping games in which we can earn valuable rewards. Also cool: In the “Titan Ruins,” the MOBA mode of MxM, players now level up both through their own achievements and as a team through certain group accomplishments.
How do I get into the alpha?
The third alpha test for Master X Master begins on Thursday, August 25 at 7 PM CEST and ends on September 1 at 1:00 AM CEST. A closed beta test is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2016. Keys for participation will be given to all newsletter subscribers who registered before 10:00 AM on August 22.
