The last movie featuring Captain America received mixed reviews from both critics and fans. Some were even quite disappointed with the new incarnation of the superhero. However, Marvel is already introducing another version.
How was the last movie received? “Captain America: Brave New World” was released on February 14, 2025, in German cinemas. What was special about it was that Marvel introduced a new Captain America.
The role was portrayed by Anthony Mackie, no stranger when it comes to Marvel. His character Samuel Wilson aka Falcon has appeared in several films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Brave New World” received overall mixed to negative reactions. On Metacritic, the film currently has a critic score of 42%, while users rate it 4.7 out of 10, with around a third being clearly negative.
For those who were dissatisfied with the movie and its version of Captain America, Marvel may now have a good alternative.
Bigger and More Realistic
What does the alternative look like? Marvel recently introduced a new comic series that also deals with Captain America. The title character is once again a new version of the well-known hero, who is famously named Steve Rogers. The new Captain is now named David Colton and sees the old one as his role model and possibly also as a mentor.
The two are likely to meet and work together in the new comics. Comparing the two versions reveals some differences.
On one hand, the new Captain is a bit taller than the old one. While Steve Rogers, at about 195 centimeters, is already anything but small, David Colton stands tall at a proud 207 centimeters.
There are also noticeable differences in the battle suit. David Colton wears an armored suit that predominantly features shades of green, giving it a strong military look. There is not much left of the iconic mix of blue, red, and white, which is due to the patriotic origins of the Captain.
This is meant to emphasize that David Colton is intended to be a much more modern Captain America. Unfortunately, we cannot show you the first images of the new character here, but you can see them on the official Marvel website.
Little is known about the actual story, only that it involves a Captain who is lost in time and awakens in a world after September 11.
The new series comes from writers Chip Zdarsky and Valerio Schiti. Volume 1 has already shown early impressions of the new Captain, with Volume 2 set to reveal more about the story in August.
