Wolverine had to face many opponents in movies, series, and comics. However, not all of them come from the Marvel universe. In one storyline, he even had to face an iconic alien that made life hell for Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Which comic is it about? In the comic series Predator vs. Wolverine by Benjamin Percy and Ken Lashley from 2023, Wolverine encounters the legendary Predator. But it doesn’t stop at just a single fight. The hunt between the two spans over 100 years and shows that there is a great hunter within Wolverine.

The perfect opponent for Wolverine
How do the Predator and Wolverine meet? Anyone who knows a bit about the Predator knows that the alien primarily lives for the hunt. It is important that the prey is worth it and provides a challenge for the Predator.
The first meeting of Wolverine with one took place in an alternate universe around 1900. The X-Men did not exist yet, and Wolverine lived alone in the forest in the area of Alaska. Occasionally, he took on jobs that brought him some money. A businessman asked him to rescue his kidnapped son.
This was no problem for Wolverine, even though the mission was a lie. His employer shoots Logan, but he can simply regenerate. Suddenly, a much more powerful opponent appears. A Yautja (the name of the Predator race) lunges at Wolverine, and a fight begins.
Wolverine seemingly manages to defeat him, but that was just the beginning. The Predator survives, and a hunt begins that will last nearly 100 years.
A constant companion of Wolverine
How does the story continue? Throughout the storyline, Wolverine is hunted by the Predator through several of his well-known life stages. When he is with Team X, several Yautja even stand in his way.
Every encounter with Wolverine is a tough battle for both sides, and historical points of the hero can be seen. The X-Men are just a small part that is threatened by the Predator. We see the Weapon X program, but also Wolverine’s adventures in Japan.
In a final confrontation, Wolverine even sacrifices himself for his friends, but even after a rather long night, the Predator cannot kill Wolverine.
In the end, Wolverine is even a bit wistful. He talks about the hunt that has kept him alive all these years. He ends the battle against his nemesis with the words: I felt an inner void. Only after a while did I recognize the cause. I miss him out there. […] I will remember him for the rest of my miserable life.
Like a childhood dream
What does MeinMMO editor and X-Men fan Nikolas Hernes say about Predator vs. Wolverine – Eternal Hunt? When I saw the compilation, I was immediately in. It’s almost like a childhood dream that one imagines while playing with action figures: Wolverine against the Predator? How should that end?
And that’s how the storyline reads too. Like the Predator as a character, the comic itself feels like a product of the 80s. It’s almost all fighting. As an adult fan of Wolverine, you’ll get your money’s worth. There are no complex themes or witty dialogues. The focus of the story is on hunting and being hunted.
The roles of the two switch back and forth, creating a dynamic that can be compared to the best action movies. The Predator fits perfectly into that. The pacing while reading is so good that one wants to read the compilation quickly in one sitting.
It may not come close to the best Wolverine stories, but seeing the well-known mutant as a blunt fighting machine is simply fun, at least if you’re into such stories.
