The new expansion of Destiny 2 is receiving a lot of criticism from the community, but one player is having fun and is not alone in this view.
What kind of expansion is this? On July 15, 2025, the new expansion “At the Edge of Fate” was released for Destiny 2, marking the start of the new Fate saga that is set to influence the events in the loot shooter in the coming years.
The update brings some changes and new content, including a story campaign on the new planet “Kepler,” the introduction of the new activity hub “The Portal,” a shooting range, and a revamp of the armor system. You can read about the most important content of At the Edge of Fate on MeinMMO.
Community complains about everything except the content of the new campaign
In what way do players hate the expansion? On social media, especially in the Destiny subreddit, there is a lot of criticism regarding the expansion and the update that was released with it.
- Many players dislike The Portal (via Reddit) and miss the old Pathfinder system (via Reddit)
- The design of the new planet Kepler looks too much like “Titan” for some players (via Reddit)
- The redesign of the menu interface from which you start your activities is sharply criticized multiple times (via Reddit)
- The solar ability “Throwing Hammer” from the Titan seems to be bugged, but players initially reacted with complaints because they suspected a stealth nerf (via Reddit).
- A new ability from the campaign, where you transform into a ball of dark matter to solve “puzzles,” is causing motion sickness for some players (via Reddit).
Many players are also disturbed by the adjustment of the equipment level. The light level of individual weapons and armor pieces has been reduced. An exotic helmet that you had at level 2040 before the expansion release has now been lowered to level 10. New loot also drops at level 10 and only gradually increases during the campaign.

Why is the player still having fun? Amid all the criticism, which is relatively typical in the Destiny subreddit, there is one brave player who actually says openly that he is having fun with the expansion. He explains in his post:
“At the Edge of Fate feels refreshingly grounded and Kepler is like a successful Neomuna for me. I like it. […] For something that I can best describe as ‘it feels normal,’ it simply feels like a well-made Destiny. It feels like I’m starting the game over and falling in love with it again. It feels like Destiny 3, and the good kind of Destiny 3.”
Throughout the text, he elaborates that he likes the new NPC “Lodi,” appreciates the change in stats, and is a fan of the planet Kepler. He has not yet engaged with The Portal, but he does not judge things like the change to the activities interface in the menu. He only speaks about the expansion, that is what he has paid for now, and he likes it.
Overall, the post received over 1,500 upvotes from the community, so there is definitely support for the positive assessment of the expansion, even though of course some comments are critical and once again criticize the design of Kepler.
