On February 6, 2025, the so-called Earnings Call for Take-Two’s new financial report took place. It’s clear that it also revolved around upcoming blockbuster releases such as GTA 6 and Borderlands 4.
What did Take-Two say? Here are the key insights from the publisher’s new financial report (via ir.take2games.com):
- Net bookings of $1.372 billion from Q3 2025 are within expectations. This is primarily due to the NBA2K franchise, which was able to grow by another 30 percent. The mobile sector only grew slightly (by 6 percent), while revenues from GTA Online are declining.
- With Civilization 7, PGA TOUR 2K25, and WWE 2K25, the company has three important releases in the first quarter of the year. At least three more are expected to follow this year.
- Take-Two confirms that the development of GTA 6 is on track and that they continue to aim for a release in fall 2025 – that is, from September to November 2025.
- A little earlier, Mafia: The Old Country is expected to be released in summer 2025.
- Borderlands 4 is also still planned for 2025.
- The other two announced projects, Judas and Project ETHOS, are still marked as “TBA”.
The first trailer for GTA 6:
So big that everything is affected by it
Why is this confirmation so important? When Rockstar Games releases a new installment of the popular GTA series, it creates a state of emergency. Past releases have shown this, and it stems from the incredible success of GTA 5. For months, various industry insiders have been certain:
- GTA 6 is expected to become the most expensive game of all time, which could also affect the price of the blockbuster. The new price could even influence the entire industry. Take-Two’s comment on this: GTA 6 should be worth every penny.
- Due to the successes of its predecessors and the hype that the first trailer has already generated, analysts are also predicting enormous success for GTA 6. Similar to GTA 5, the sequel is expected to remain relevant for many years.
But there is another lesson from the past: When Rockstar Games and Take-Two announce a release window for a large, complex game like GTA, the chances have been high that this window will need to be adjusted at least once.
For example, GTA 5 was postponed multiple times. Therefore, rumors circulated monthly about a possible delay of the 6th part to 2026. The fact that Take-Two is now confirming fall 2025 as the release for GTA 6 is likely to be a surprise for many industry observers.
At the same time, some decision-makers regarding upcoming releases are likely to hold strategy meetings: Should we dare to compete with GTA 6, or should we avoid the fall? Many titles may shift to December or January. The fact that Take-Two continues not to disclose a specific date certainly doesn’t make planning easier. By the way, there was recently a supposed leak about the release of GTA 6, which coincidentally falls in the fall.
