Who wants to test their skills as a normal player in League of Legends, faces the leaderboard in solo/duo mode, also known as SoloQ. This leads to recognition, even outside the professional field. One of the most well-known is the German streamer Agurin.
Who is Agurin? Muhammed “Agurin” Kocak is a German LoL streamer who primarily streams his SoloQ matches. Many people will also know him from the team NNO, which consisted of well-known German streamers. This included Tolkin, NoWay, Karni, and Broeki.
He is known in the scene for his skills within SoloQ. He regularly reaches rank 1 on the leaderboard. A few weeks ago, he managed to achieve rank 1 and 2 in EUW (via YouTube) and a year ago he reached rank 1 in Solo queue in South Korea (via reddit).
For many LoL players, the jungler is one of the best SoloQ players in the world. And that’s despite live streaming without hiding his map. It’s easy to stream snipe him, yet he is so successful. He has his own playstyle that leads him to success.
The HandofBlood team also regularly causes a stir:
Agurin’s playstyle revolves around maximum efficiency
What is Agurin’s playstyle? As a jungler, one must try to utilize the time between camps efficiently, and hardly anyone does this as well as Agurin. The channel Myth explains this in a YouTube video.
Many players think that the jungler must gank often. However, while watching Agurin, you realize that he doesn’t gank as often as one might think. Most of the time, he does a full clear of the camps and then focuses on potential ganks afterwards.
He always makes the decision about what is the most efficient at that moment. Just because one ganks, it doesn’t mean it yields more experience and gold than farming during that time. Agurin has such extensive experience that he can usually say what the safest and most efficient next step is. It’s not about a single match but about how to behave best in hundreds of matches.
For a team game, this might sound quite strange at first, but SoloQ is the mode where one doesn’t know how good one’s teammates are. He is a master of macro play, focusing on the bigger picture of a match rather than individual mechanics.
Sometimes, it’s simply better not to make a play and farm bluntly.
Agurin knows exactly what he’s doing with his champions
Agurin uses the resources he has very well. Looking at how he approaches the camps, you can see that he also wants to utilize the time perfectly there. He tries to do the different camps as soon as possible, so the respawn of the different camps happens at the same time. He aims to farm efficiently.
An important factor is also his main champions. He has a fixed pool of champions from which he chooses, usually Elise, Jarvan, and Kha’Zix. But he has also shown with champions like Brand or Neeko that he is not dependent on a specific meta.
In summary, Agurin does many things very well:
- He always tries to do the most efficient and probably the best thing
- Doesn’t rely on his team
- He tries to be the one who carries the team
- Fixed champion pool, which he adjusts based on the meta
Does this work in the professional realm as well? No, in the professional realm, one can rely on their team, communicate, and knows what their teammates are capable of. In SoloQ, randomness is an important factor that Agurin tries to counter with his playstyle.
What is the current status of Agurin? This season, he had some problems getting out of Diamond. However, as he wrote on x.com on October 15, 2024, he has reached Challenger again. Besides this, he recently attracted attention for toxic behavior. An outburst this year also caused his NNO colleagues to be called out: LoL: A nasty outburst from their friend puts leading German streamers on Twitch in a position of having to explain themselves
