With Magic: The Gathering Arena, Hearthstone could soon face a serious competitor. MTGArena finally has a start date for the beta!
After GWENT, another trading card game is now trying to position itself in the market, having had the greatest success in the physical world. Magic: The Gathering Arena is Wizards of the Coast’s attempt to release a comprehensive PC game of Magic.
After the alpha phase seems to have gone well, the developers have now announced the start date for the closed beta.
Magic: The Gathering Arena will be playable starting December 4, 2017, for everyone who receives an invitation to the closed beta.
Unlike Hearthstone, Magic is more complex, and opponents have the opportunity to respond to certain actions. This makes individual turns longer, but also offers more tactical depth. A first impression of how the matches in MTGArena will unfold could already be seen in the stream from September. The well-known streamer Amaz showcased a show match here.
Unlike the alpha phase, the beta servers, aside from interim maintenance work, should be almost continuously available, giving players “even more opportunities to try out the game.”
However, there is a small dampener for the anticipation. The developers want to allow access only in “small waves” at the beginning. This means it may take several weeks or months before interested players can actually play the game, even if they register now or have already done so.
