This week saw a lot happening in the big MMORPGs as well as in the smaller ones. Lost Ark finally addressed the missing roadmap and promised new classes, while a professional guild in WoW lost the World-First race, equating to about €85,000. Here are the key MMORPG news of the week summarized for you.
The highlights of the week:
- Lost Ark finally gave a glimpse of the roadmap for April and May. It is supposed to be released soon and will also bring new classes. However, Amazon is currently not revealing which ones they are. In the incorrect, published roadmap, it mentioned Destroyer and Arcana.
- Final Fantasy XIV showcases in a trailer for Update 6.1 a completely new raid for 24 players and revamps the PvP system of the MMORPG.
- The German developers at CipSoft (Tibia) won the title “Studio of the Year” at the German Video Game Awards. They fully donated the €50,000 prize money to help refugees from Ukraine.
This week’s outrage: The weekly update for Lost Ark disappointed fans across the board this week. Not only did the servers collapse shortly after the update, but the content was not enough for many fans.
The discussion of the week: This week World of Warcraft released two new cutscenes that show the end of Sylvanas Windrunner. The story campaign of the current expansion is actually already completed, so not only the content of the videos sparked debates.
WoW guild loses approximately €85,000, and New World gets its biggest update yet
What happened with the big MMORPGs:
- The guild Echo wins the race in World of Warcraft for the world’s first kill of the Jailor. Other guilds, like Team Liquid, also tried – but weren’t fast enough and thus spent 723 million gold pieces almost for nothing – which corresponds to about €85,000. Additionally, a character returns that you have been waiting for 15 years.
- Black Desert Online will receive a new class in April, which was just announced in a trailer. The Drakania wields a great sword and a lot of lightning into battle.
- Lost Ark suffered from a bug that already plagued New World. Players were briefly able to execute some lines of HTML code in the chat window.
What’s happening with the small MMORPGs:
- New World is receiving the largest update yet with Heart of Madness. The new dungeon and weapons are well received by fans and give a lot of hope for the community.
- In Guild Wars 2, the annual Super Adventure Festival returned – but this time it had one of the most bizarre bugs of all time.
- The new MMORPG Mortal Online 2 has to close several servers as it lost nearly 50% of its total players. Now everyone plays together on a megaserver.
- In Swords of Legends Online, you no longer have to feed your pet. The system has been removed as it was unnecessarily burdensome to many players (via massivelyop).
- Elyon presents a major roadmap for 2022, despite the game having under 500 concurrent players on Steam. New classes, dungeons, and a new PvP system are set to come (via massivelyop).
- Update 33 for The Elder Scrolls Online can now also be played on consoles. The patch went live last month for PC (via massivelyop).
- Broken Ranks is getting its first major update focused on guilds and new quests (via mmorpg.com).
What’s happening with MMORPGs in development:
- Ashes of Creation finally shows its complete character editor in a long video and it looks really good.
- The MMORPG Palia is preparing for another alpha test, but you are not allowed to participate. However, more tests are expected to start soon (via massivelyop).
- A beta, in which you can participate if you pay for it, is expected to start on April 6 in Fractured.
