Riot digs up the old Yorick – Does the Champion update at LoL fulfill your wishes?
Fans of League of Legends have had to wait a long time for this champion update. Yorick has been in the game for quite some time (June 22, 2011) and has been more of an exception pick than a staple in the meta in recent years. A few days ago, they teased that they are working on the rework of the champion. In the meantime, the appearance and new abilities are already available to review.
The new abilities of Yorick in LoL
With the rework of the champion, the developers at Riot focused on changing Yorick’s playstyle. With the new abilities, the champion appears fresher and even brings a strong crowd control. Let’s take a closer look at the abilities:
Shepherd of Lost Souls (passive): Up to 4 Mistwalkers can serve Yorick simultaneously. They decay when they move too far from Yorick or the Maiden of Mist. When enemy minions or neutral monsters die near Yorick, a Grave occasionally spawns. A guaranteed Grave appears when enemy Champions die near Yorick.
Last Rites and Awakening (Q): If the ability is active, Yorick’s next auto attack deals bonus damage and restores some health to Yorick. If you kill a target with Last Rites, a Grave is created. If there are at least three Graves near Yorick and Last Rites is just finishing, you can use Awakening. This resurrects Mistwalkers from the Graves.
Dark Procession (W): With this ability, Yorick summons a wall of corpses that encloses targets within a certain radius. This wall has hit points and is destructible. You can see this ability in the bottom right of the following image.
Whispering Mist (E): Yorick throws a mist sphere in a target direction. This sphere deals magic damage, slows the target, and marks it. Both Yorick and the Mistwalkers gain bonus movement speed when approaching marked targets.
Requiem of the Isles (R): With this ability, Yorick summons the Maiden of Mist. At higher ranks of the ultimate, Mistwalkers are summoned simultaneously. The Maiden of Mist moves and attacks at her discretion. If Yorick attacks the same target as the Maiden of Mist, he deals additional magic damage. This damage depends on how much maximum health the opponent has.

Yorick gameplay after the rework
With the new abilities, Yorick has completely new ways to function in the game. With the crowd control of his Dark Procession , he can keep unwanted guests away from himself or out of a team fight. At least until the wall is destroyed. He is also viable as a split-pusher, as the Maiden of Mist even helps to take down towers. According to the developers, the AI of the Mistwalkers is easy to understand. Yorick plays like a shepherd for a flock of sheep. In the video, you can see how Yorick can function as a split-pusher.
