The World Championships in League of Legends have started in Berlin. But for the US team 100 Thieves, the LoL Worlds 2024 are over after just 3 games. They cannot get past Brazil and a team from Hong Kong, PSG Talon. On reddit, they are enjoying attacking the disappointing LoL professionals of 100 Thieves, particularly targeting the support player Eyla as an easy target.
These are the Play-Ins at the LoL Worlds 2024:
8 teams will go into the Play-Ins, the preliminary round of the Worlds: the two third-placed and thus nominally weakest teams from Europe and North America, the two strongest representatives from Asia-Pacific and Vietnam, and the 2 champions from Brazil and Latin America. The Play-Ins were played from September 25 to 29 in Berlin, Germany.
Only 4 of the 8 teams will advance. In fact, 4 teams from the smaller regions will be eliminated here. It is considered a disgrace if a team from Europe or North America loses.
But even in 2024, a team from the USA has been torn apart.
US Team Takes a Beating at the Worlds – Loses 1-20
How did 100 Thieves get eliminated? 100 Thieves lost their first match immediately against the Brazilian Movistar R7, they then won against Fuhuoka, a team from Japan, and faced PSG Talon in the decisive match:
- PSG Talon is a team from Hong Kong that regularly knocks a Western team out in the preliminary round.
- 100 Thieves are an e-sports team that are primarily successful in shooters. The team heavily relies on fashion and influencers. In LoL, 100 Thieves has no great history; only with the German Abbedagge did it go really well in 2021. In 2024, they were only able to qualify because actually stronger teams had a weak season.
PSG Talon won the match against 100 Thieves 2-0. It wasn’t even close:
- In Game 1, PSG Talon dominated and won 20-1 in 26 minutes.
- Match 2 lasted 30 minutes and PSG Talon won with 20 to 9 kills.
Nothing Expected and Still Disappointed
How brutal is reddit: On reddit, US fans of LoL have been accustomed to defeats for many years. It is said about 100 Thieves that they expected nothing and were still disappointed:
- Supporter Elya is described as “the worst player of the Worlds.”
- One commentator says: “It’s not the Worlds until a team completely fails and gets eliminated.”
- “That they lost to PSG was expected. But that they lost to R7 was criminal. Every one of them except Sniper completely failed under pressure and Eyla is just Eyla.”
The only 17-year-old top-laner Ryan “Sniper” Shoura is seen as the talent of the team. However, there is the strange statement that he wants to end his professional career after the Worlds at the age of 17.
