The video game developer Stephen “Mortdog” Mortimer works for Riot Games on “Teamfight Tactics” the autobattler featuring characters from League of Legends (LoL). He has a problem with how young viewers treat their stars, the e-sports players.
This is the background of the clip:
- Mortdog is the lead designer of Teamfight Tactics, the autobattler from Riot Games.
- In TFT there was a tournament called “Monster Attack: Mecha Cup”, the US pro “k3soju” only placed 39th in the tournament.
- As a result, he had to endure some insults from the Twitch chat stating: “He just doesn’t have it anymore.”
Only placed second at the World Championship and was therefore insulted as “washed up”, Faker:
“Faker places second at the World Championship and they call him washed up”
This annoys Mortdog: In a Twitch stream, Mortdog complained about how disrespectful young people are towards their stars.
He showed a clip of basketball star Giannis Antetokounmpo explaining that in sports there is no failure, only good and bad days.
That is the essence of sports: one cannot always win.
Mortdog is upset about how Twitch viewers treat e-sports players and how casually they judge others. It’s not journalists attacking e-sports players, but the people in the Twitch chat – they are much worse:
Someone places second in a tournament and you call him washed up. People have called Faker washed up because he placed second at Worlds. You guys are terrible! Nothing drives me more insane than people who sit in their mom’s house in their bedroom and talk crap about people who go out and play for something. It’s ridiculous. You all are ridiculous.
He urges viewers to treat their idols with respect.
What is so special about the statement? In the comments on YouTube, a user notes that Mortdog is defending someone he had a conflict with in TFT. K3Soju and Mortdog had previously argued about the state of TFT.
It is said in the comments that it is “heartwarming” how Mortdog stands up for him.
We reported on MeinMMO about the finals of the LoL World Championship when Faker lost in a duel against an old school friend:
