League of Legends releases an update to the live servers every two weeks. In the last attempt to update the game, however, they managed to delete the entire last patch.
Riot Games wanted to bring the latest updates to the live servers. Given the trends from the professional games, they primarily planned changes in the jungle. As a result, forgotten champions like Nidalee or Lillia could come back into focus.
In patch 13.1B, the developers had already addressed the reign of the terrible little kitty and reduced her stats. As a result, she was no longer effectively usable by professional players.
But everything took a different turn than expected. Because with the start of the implementation of patch 13.3, all changes from the previous patch were revoked. At that moment, chaos broke out on the live servers, and the leaderboards were locked server-wide for several hours.

When the problem became known, Riot Games quickly made a statement. They said that they were aware of the issue, and that patch 13.1B had indeed been deleted. As long as they were working on a solution for the problem, no ranked games were possible.
Riot Ray Yonggi spoke on Discord, and according to him, it was due to the “hacky micropatch” 13.1B that was overwritten when a new patch was supposed to be introduced.
The community is divided: There are players who are not unfamiliar with the problems on Riot Games’ servers. They have commented on Twitter and questioned the budgeting of League of Legends. User OthavioDiass asked whether they could spare merely 10 dollars for the game.
Other users were happy about the short comeback of the kitty:
But no matter how you look at it: Riot Games completely messed up the game with this patch. The ensuing chaos lasted several hours, and many players had to wait for access to ranked games.
After the game was fixed again, patch 13.3 could be placed on the live servers. Here, players can try out the planned changes.
What do you think about the whole story? Was Riot’s backward approach a refreshing change, or did you wait hours for access to ranked games? Let us know in the comments.
