The preseason of League of Legends is characterized by many transactions among the players. In the upcoming season, many players will not start with their old teams. The same goes for the young talent from Evil Geniuses. What exactly happened with the team?
What is happening in America? In League of Legends, there are occasionally teams that become noticeable externally. Recently, there was a huge uproar about G2 Esports, who fired the CEO for celebrating with the wrong people.
This time, it is about the League of Legends team from the LCS, Evil Geniuses (EG), and the player Kyle “Danny” Sakamaki (18). This player is contracted with EG as an ADC. There, he had a fantastic season. However, now a tumult has formed around him.
The young player took a break from his professional career over the summer. The reason was probably personal circumstances. As a result, he missed the championship final. Meanwhile, more and more problems accumulated within the team.
This has led to Danny’s break likely being extended, and it is apparent that he will not play for EG at the beginning of the upcoming season, as reported by dotesports (via dotesports.com).
The reasons for this decision have partially become known, and the Evil Geniuses team is now facing significant criticism. An outside company will be brought in to assess the circumstances within the team.
Faker has been perfectly portrayed several times in the videos of the Worlds of League of Legends:
CEO wants to smooth things over: “We take it damn seriously”
How did all this come to light? The European commentator Marc Robert “Caedrel” Lamont showed a chat log in his livestream on Twitch. A family member of Danny is said to have spoken about the circumstances at Evil Geniuses.
EG has portrayed a facade to the outside that everything is very familial, but that was probably not the case. It seems to have gone so far that they turned to the players’ association for help. The player himself, however, does not want to make a big deal out of it.
Even Danny’s personal lane coach allegedly intervened on his behalf and wanted to approach the players’ association. Subsequently, he is said to have been fired by the team. It seems that all of this stems from certain individuals having a misguided view of specific matters. However, it is already too late to work on that.

What is the response from the organization? The CEO of Evil Geniuses appears completely taken aback and has commented on Twitter regarding the incident. Nicole LaPointe Jameson speaks to EG’s fans about how the allegations against the team are absolutely unfounded.
She cannot disclose further information due to the confidentiality agreement, but it is very important to her and the organization how the players are doing. She sees the players and even their families more often than her own.
During the video, she emphasizes that they are really damn serious about focusing on the well-being of the players. Furthermore, they have now brought in another company to review their treatment of players and in the LCS, so that the allegations can be addressed.
All the allegations stand in stark contrast to how Evil Geniuses presents itself externally. And even though they want to support the players, one thing is already certain amidst the turmoil: Danny will not start the season for EG in 2023. Instead, FBI from 100 Thieves will play as ADC.
What do you think about the whole issue? Is the success of the organization important, or should it primarily be about the well-being of the players? Let us know in the comments.
