Warhammer 40,000 is a dystopian version of the future, where constant war prevails. At least among humans, there is still something like everyday life with jobs and family. However, Warhammer would not be Warhammer if the professions were cheerful and “normal”. For at least 5 of them, anything would be better than this fate.
For most people, Warhammer is simply a world where everyone fights everyone all the time. In reality, this is more or less true: Warhammer is indeed a dark world where there are no “good” beings.
This does not mean, however, that fighting occurs everywhere and at all times. For many races – such as the T’au, the Aeldari, or indeed the humans – there is still something like a normal life.
The Imperium of Man itself is already a dystopian future vision, permeated with fascist structures, extreme methods, and poverty. Only a fraction of the population lives well, such as the nobility or less chosen individuals with special rights and, of course, those who obediently submit to the order.
But what is on the other side? Most people work to survive or, as is often the case, die in the attempt. However, there are some professions that are still unpopular even in the lower strata…
Servitors, the literally brainless servants
Imagine someone sticking a blender into your head and stirring your brain around. This is roughly what happens when you are sentenced to “Servitude Imperpituis”, that is, made into a Servitor.
Servitors are lobotomized humans with cybernetic enhancements, living machines without free will. They are there to do the absolute dirty and heavy work, just like robots.

Typically, brain functions are cut back just enough to operate the body and its new functions. Artificial intelligence is strictly prohibited in the Imperium. However, if you happen to have very bad luck and have seriously offended a powerful person, it may happen that your sense of pain remains or that you even stay conscious, trapped in a mechanized body, virtually forever.
